I recently had a terrible experience with Hawes & Co in Wimbledon Village. I was dealing with Janine in the Lettings team and everything was going great until she left. I was supposed to move in to a property however Hawes & Co never sent me the tenancy agreement to sign and still hadn’t sent it a month and a half later! They kept telling me they would send it and made up various excuses about the landlord not having an email address etc but I never received it and in the end I couldn’t wait any longer as me and my child needed to move out of our current place so I asked them to return my deposit and they refused (even though this was their fault and they’d never sent me the tenancy)! I’ve tried raising a formal complaint but had no response and everyone I’ve tried to reach out to is now ignoring my calls and messages.

Don’t waste your time with that agency don’t make any appointment they are not reliable, they are giving expectation and then giving nothing.

Hawes and Co are the worst letting agents I have encountered in 10 years. They promised to resve a damp issue prior to us moving in, they didn't.
When we moved in the previous tenants left a ton of rubbish in the back garden. Hawes thought it was appropriate to put items like a flat football and a broken bicycle on the inventory.
The boiler broke. They failed to fix it for weeks. They claimed they liaised with the landlord over issued with the washing machine, ill fitting curtains and a blind. They did not.
During a repair they called out a handyman. Who then forgot the keys, which is perfectly acceptable. He then phoned to say that this happened. The Letting Agent, obviously not speaking to the handyman called to say he could not attend the appointment as he had an emergency to attend. An outright lie.
I broke my leg - and was therefore housebound, and therefore shocked that one day Hawes had given the key to a gas inspector who just let himself in, without informing me. What a shocking invasion of privacy.
On checkout they tried to charge for items that were never on the inventory. Throughout this entire tenancy they have lacked any professionalism or customer service. We had to go to a tribunal.
If you rent from this company, be aware.

They had a landlord managing the property from ALGERIA!!! We had a roaming UK mobile number to call (costing us a bundle!!!). Of course, the heating stopped working so they got in two handymen - neither of which was Gas Safe registered - who started pulling up the floor boards. They put the heaters back in such a poor state, they started to flood the flat. I was 38 weeks pregnant at the time. We jumped up and down and, to their credit, Hawes & Co used their contractor and took over management of the flat, but how could they accept a landlord who doesn't even live in the country and is managing the premises? Every other estate agent I have used have expressed horror at this. At the very least, they should have advised us from the outset.
