Within a week of putting the house on the market DC found 2 keen buyers who made offers. On DC's advice we accepted the lower of the offers as they were cash buyers, exchanging contracts that same week on their house and they were local who knew our property well. Also being ex-police added a degree of integrity to the deal. They did not exchange that week nor for the following eight weeks. Early on and in writing we made it clear that we would be away on holiday for 2 weeks some 2 months after the offer was accepted and that we would have to exchange/complete after we returned. A date was set for completion 3 days following our return. We arranged removers and forwarding of mail before we went on holiday. In the middle of the holiday the buyers backed out for no apparent reason. No apology from the agents. But they found a new buyer within a month. Also cash buyers with no property to sell. Also keen to complete and move in within 5-6 weeks. 3 weeks later the buyers requested to link the purchase to the sale of some other property they owned. We refused and argued they should stick to the original deal. They threatened to walk away from the deal and in writing we suggested ti DC that "he got a grip on this sale after the fiasco of the last deal falling through". The sale went ahead but with no contact (writing or phone) from the agents to ourselves from that moment until we completed some 7 weeks later. Not even on the day of completion was there any contact with us. Nothing. Very poor communication and no progress reports in writing whatsoever. Even our Ely based solicitors said they had never experienced such poor work from an estate agent. They do not deserve any future business and will not ever have any from us again.

What agent could do to change your mind?

Answered our e-mails. Returned our phone calls. Sympathised when the buyers they recommended walked away after several weeks of the purchase process. Also responded to our comments when they submitted their sales blurb for our approval. The house had and was built for 4 bedrooms - they put three bedrooms. The house was in a cul-de-sac. They did not think this important enough to put in their sales blurb. The house was one of nine on an exclusive private estate with private access. Even this was omitted from their sales blurb. I think the staff of DC worked hard and diligently but DC himself was complacent, amateurish, and slap-dash.

No fees information available

Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
