We moved into a Crest Nicholson build in August 2023. I have waited until now to post a review as it takes time to determine the quality of a building and the aftersales service provided Unfortunately, first impressions can be misleading. We were delighted with the house when we first moved in. There was excellent support from Crest during the purchase and the build, and during the initial snagging phase. No complaints there. However, it soon became apparent that there were major problems arising from seemingly sloppy working practices by some of the contractors, especially as regards electricals and plumbing. Over the past two years we have had several significant issues. 1. Four leaks: • The waste pipe from the integral washing machine was not inserted properly on installation resulting upon a flood in the utility room on first use. • The coldwater pipe to the external tap was not joined properly resulting in another flood in the utility room, this time necessitating replacement of the floor and units. It also needed a complete revision of the plumbing behind the washing machine so as to make the valve to the outside tap accessible. • A badly sealed shower outflow in the main bedroom ensuite resulted in a flood in the kitchen below on first use • A poorly connected outflow pipe from the bath resulted in another flood in the kitchen. 2. The guest room shower would only provide tepid water on first use: a faulty thermostat had to be replaced. 3. The heating system was wired up incorrectly so that the upstairs radiators warmed up every time the boiler came on to heat up the water system. It turned out that the hot water storage tank had been wired incorrectly. 4. The plug sockets in the utility room were labelled incorrectly. 5. Although Crest set up accounts with E.ON all the properties, it turned out that the gas meters provided would not connect to the E.ON smart meter system: it needed a replacement gas meter to rectify this, provided by E.ON. 6. We paid extra Crest to install an external EV charger, only to find that this did not work and needed replacing. 7. We paid extra to Crest an alarm system to be installed, only to find that the company concerned will not provide local maintenance support once the 2yr warranty has expired, their excuse being that they are based too far away. During this time, we had a PIR replaced as it kept falling off the wall. An inspection also revealed that the external alarm box had not been wired properly on installation, now fixed. 8. We were informed a year after moving in that the boundaries had been placed incorrectly i.e. not in accordance with the initial Land Registry entry. Fortunately, this was resolved through negotiation with Crest without a need to tear up the fencing on two sides of the garden and a simple correction to the Land Registry entry. All things considered, a poor show! Beware!!
