We currently live in a rental property managed by We Let Properties. Back in March 2025, we had issues with our electric shower. Maintenance came quickly and fitted a new part, but even they recommended that the whole unit should have been replaced as it wasn’t previously installed correctly. Unsurprisingly, the cheaper “quick fix” only lasted a few months, and by June the same problems returned – about 50% of the time, the shower water has been completely freezing cold and unusable. I raised another maintenance request in early July, asking again for a new shower unit to be installed. This was logged on 15 July, with a due date of 22 July. Over a month later, despite multiple phone calls chasing for updates, nothing has been done. What has shocked me most is not even the delay itself, but the way we have been spoken to. After emailing for an update on 20/8, I was shocked to receive the following response from Maegan: “I appreciate your comments and do agree the shower unit needs to be replaced however I did advise already that we were looking into this and as you have use of a bath this is not something would be considered urgent.” Where do I start. To tell a tenant that a shower repair isn’t urgent because “you can have a bath” is completely unacceptable. A working shower is a basic facility any reasonable tenant would expect. The existence of a bath does not remove the duty to repair the shower in a timely way, nor is it practical to expect tenants to rely solely on one facility. We are paying full rent for a flat with both, and it is unreasonable to rudely dismiss our request for a repair on the basis of “well, you can just have a bath instead!” After phoning Maegan today (21/8) and asking if any progress has been made (bear in mind it’s been over a month since the issue was raised) she reiterated the above comment. I find this behaviour to be rude, unprofessional and completely unacceptable. Despite the extremely long time to get the shower sorted (it still hasn’t been fixed), we have been extremely patient in the matter, and have in fact given We Let Properties the benefit of the doubt for far too long. I am less frustrated by the broken shower itself than by how poorly we have been treated as tenants. The dismissive and unprofessional way this has been handled is not what anyone should expect from a property management company. The fact that dont see fixing a working shower as urgent speaks volumes about the company. Being told how we should wash, essentially to “make do with a bath”, is insulting and degrading. It makes us feel less like tenants with rights and more like animals being told how to clean ourselves. Please can a senior member of staff or partner call me ASAP. Ed
