We were good tenants for 5 years. North Star were always rather slow to respond to things. We once went without heating for 2 weeks just before Christmas which was not a good experience. However, we're pretty easy going and thought, "Well, at least we have a reasonable place to live." The crunch came when we gave notice to move into the affordable housing we had been granted. First of all, they tried to screw us out of an additional month's rent even though our contract clearly stated we had to give "one calendar month's notice" (we in fact gave a full calendar month's notice, plus two extra days). We clarified things with our lawyer, and no, we did NOT owe an extra month's rent! Then, having referred us to the Deposit Protection Scheme to get our deposit back, and I quote from Paul at North Star's email, "Please submit your bond request online to the deposit protection service, once I have the keys I will complete the exit check on the property personally, once a bond request is authorised by the landlord it usually appears within the tenants account within 3 working days" ..... Well, it took 4 months and us going through the whole claim process, sworn affidavits, etc, to get our deposit back, because North Star were simply not responding to DPS or us. Shocking. Especially at a time when as self-employed people with no income during lockdown we were going through such a hard time putting food on the table. North Star had a duty of care to us, and they failed dismally. Never again.

20 Jul 2020We completely disagree with these comments, you advised verbally that you 'might be getting an offer of another property' you were told to put in the correct notice when you knew for sure if you wanted to leave, you then contacted us advising us of your intent to vacate the property with only 4 days notice. The garage was also left full rubbish which needed to be cleared and a house that needed cleaning etc. On the instruction of the landlord deductions were applied for to the DPS with reference to these issues. We have of course evidence of all of the above.

20 Jul 2020Please don't tell lies. You just make things worse for yourself. I have everything in writing, including over one month's notice given. The house was left spotless and we had made over the garden beautifully - I have dated photos to prove it all. No deductions were applied for with DPS - and we got it all back, 4 months late as I stated. Oh yes, and the house does not have a garage!!! So who knows what tenant you are thinking of in your response!!! You can't even remember the property we were in. Your best response is to apologise - or else say nothing at all.

Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
