Very sneaky, don't trust them & so rude to potential tenants. On viewing of the property I eventually rented, Quilliam rep had the audacity to tell my husband & myself not to be in different rooms at different times because we might steal something! Both my husband & I own our own successful businesses, we are decent people & were dressed well - how dare she imply we would do such a thing. My landlord was only paying them a finder's fee, not using them as the actual agents, yet Quilliam tried to extort extra funds from us, separate to what was payable on a standard letting. Also, they lied to us, saying no pets in the flat but if we paid them more rent it would be acceptable. My landlord had pets himself & said he NEVER gave them instructions about not allowing pets or needing to pay more for them. SNEAKY, RIP OFF AGENT - BE AWARE. Even now they hold the deposit in their bank account, even though they have never received any rent from us because we pay the landlord directly - for more than 5 years! They refuse to hand over the deposit to the landlord or into the Scheme. Also, they tried to raise our rent via letter sent to us, even though they were no longer acting for the landlord. I asked my landlord who knew nothing about raising my rent - Quilliam had sent the letter without landlord's permission. After all the trouble they were, my landlord tossed them to the curb because he didn't want to lose a good, reliable tenant, but Quilliam still hold my deposit.

I have been dealing with this complaint directly by email but for anyone who might be reading these comments I would like to explain what can happen when estate agents carry out viewings in people's properties: Many years ago when I was working for an estate agent in Putney a vendor whose property we were selling said a diamond ring went missing during a viewing. The young negotiator who had shown people around was absolutely devastated. It was such a serious allegation and caused such a lot of upset. When we take on a property we are responsible for that property and the owners belongings when doing viewings etc. We have to be so careful and try to keep people to one room at a time rather than people wandering off on their own. This is not to accuse anyone, it is just common sense. Now I agree whoever it was showing Mr and Mrs Dixon around the property should not have been so blunt as to say that was the reason and I can only think that it was said in innocence rather than malicious. Again I have to point out that this happened back in 2014 and should have been reported at that time. As for the other complaints I have provided information that shows we acted on the landlord's instructions which included concerns about pets scratching the floors and instructions about deposits. The allegations made in this review are completely unfair.

I am the tenant and note that Julia Quilliam did nothing to apologise for her staff's actions when she was given an opportunity to do so. Further, I went through point by point of my review with her and was able to prove each point - I note she doesn't respond to certain aspects that she is guilty of. It appears her preference is to deal with only what she wishes to and avoid the rest. She continued to hang on to my deposit for almost 6 years, only handing it over to the landlord when this reveiw was written! That's unprofessional as she shouldn't have had at all, it should always have been handed to the landlord. I note she avoids this issue as she is guilty. She doesn't raise the fact her staff lied about not being able to have pets in the property, where the landlord was fine with pets and Quilliam's staff instead made this decision. If I was the landlord I wouldn't want the agent making decisions on my behalf without checking with me first! She also doesn't raise the fact that her staff extorted more money from us because we had pets, because once again when you're guilty what can you say in defence? Lastly, Julia Quilliam doesn't mention why she sent a letter raising the rent after 1 year when they were not receiving rent from us in the first place as it was being paid directly to the landlord. Once again, Quilliams' staff make decisions for properties they aren't even connected to anymore, just in the hope they can fool people into making payment to them. I'd be VERY worried when dealing with them, even if you sign a contract can you be sure they'll uphold their end? This situation clearly shows "no". I wonder why all these actions are considered to be "fair" by Julia Quilliam when apparently my warning everyone of the illegal activities is considered "unfair"?
