I have rented properties for many years, but Martin & Co. were by far the most hassle when it came to my deposit return. The property was left in an immaculate condition and despite a Martin & Co. check-out report showing so, the landlord demanded to take my full deposit. He / she listed made up damages for things like furniture and so on. I expect landlords to be greedy like that, and understand Martin & Co. work for them and not the tenant, but the lack of cooperation or working towards a reasonable agreement was irritating to say the least. What made it worse is that Martin & Co. began taking months to reply back to my e-mails, and when they did, they stated that the landlord is impossible to contact and so they will need to just go ahead and take my full deposit. That's irritating, but fine, except despite informing me of that, they carried on ignoring my e-mails and not starting the DPS process for further months. Over 7 months I had to wait, and of course, despite them claiming to "prepare their evidence", they submitted none and I eventually managed to get my deposit back. They were clearly outright lying and delaying the process. This is an awful, greedy tactic and is exploiting a customer who could be relying on that deposit money to live. I wont be trusting them again. Thank God that services like the DPS protect us from this sort of stuff.

Had to pay a fee every time a contract needed re-signing. This was said to cover administration costs but seemed very high as all it involved was printing out a contract and spending 10 minutes going through and signing it with us.

Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
