My partner and I attempted to purchase a property through Merryweathers this year. We agreed a price, ensured the proofs and documents were in place and provided a mortgage in principle. We were told that the vendors were happy with the agreement and that they had asked Merryweathers to stop taking details of prospective buyers, nor inform them of anyone else being interested. They also told us they were in no real hurry. Two weeks into the process (having instructed the solicitor to begin the searches and the mortgage advisor to arrange the valuation) I received a phone call from Carol at Merryweathers, saying that they had invited the vendor into their office, and the branch manager had advised them to take another offer due to a very slight increase in the sale price and the promise of a quicker completion. My gf and I were not informed there was anyone else in the picture, otherwise we could have reacted or agreed another way forward. We were simply told that we were no longer required. If I'm honest, I'm not sure I've ever been as angry nor deceived, as it was the estate agents advice and actions that had robbed us of the house. I'm a big believer in communication and honesty, especially when I have entered into an agreement. Merryweathers simply did not care. They offered no apologies nor any understanding nor any real explanation, just that we were out. I'll never enter into negotiations with them on any level again. They seem to take great pleasure in screwing people over. On the flip-side, my gf and I have now secured a property, which to be honest, is much bigger and better through an estate agent called Portfields. Can't wait to complete. Carol who??? In the meantime I looked at the house we originally wanted. It is still not marked as sold, nor off the market, not even under offer 3 weeks later. Hopefully the purchase fell through and they are left with a house they can't sell.
Be honest. Act with integrity. Honour an agreement. Be less deceitful.
They marketed the house at £275,000 and we agreed at less than £250,000

15 Nov 2022Where do I begin.. please avoid this company.. we made offer and went through mortgage advisors and all sorts now to be told house the garden isn't freehold. They advertised as all of it freehold. I will be taking action against this company we wouldn't of made an offer if we knew it was leasehold

I would love to say what a good service I received from Merryweathers when I recently sold my late mother's house. My first meeting with Scott soon convinced me that I had made the right choice and avoided the impersonal "Online" estate agents. His abundance of local knowledge... Read Full Review

Property was on the Market for ages and we never had a single person through the door. Also the person who was looking after our file left the company and it seems it was never passed on for the property to be handled by anyone else. Furthermore the advert that was placed in the local press was... Read Full Review
