We had an awful experience with Hancock and Partners and would not deal with them again. We have since seen promising looking properties advertised by Hancock's and decided not to consider viewing them because of our experience. Here is a list of things that happened during our tenancy:
The day we moved in we found the kitchen severely damaged due to a flood from the flat above. It took Hancock's around 11 weeks just to arrange a quote for the repair. Overall it took around 5 months before the kitchen was repaired and fully operational.
During the fortnight that work was being carried out on the kitchen I contacted Hancock's to ask what arrangement we could make to cover costs of the food expenses we would incur while the kitchen was inaccessible. They assured us that if we kept our receipts that we would be reimbursed for our costs. We kept the receipts, submitted them and Hancock's refused to reimburse us.
Before we moved in we noticed the gas fire in the front room was broken. We asked for it to be fixed before the tenancy started but when we moved in found that it had not been fixed. Over the next few months one replacement fire was purchased then was found to be the wrong type so could not be installed, then another one was purchased and installed and again turned out to be the wrong kind of fire so had to be uninstalled while another one was ordered until finally, on the third attempt and towards the end of winter, we had fully operational heating.
A boiler pipe once burst and they fixed the pipe but didn't replace the water damaged wooden shelf holding the boiler up.
Staff once turned up at the property without any notification whatsoever.
The maintenance team would often say one thing on the phone and contradict it via email. I would also frequently ask them about what progress had been made on fixing the kitchen and gas fire without hearing anything in return for long periods of time. Communication got so bad that I eventually had to copy in the owner of the company and the landlords themselves in emails to increase the chances of the maintenance team responding. Towards the end of our tenancy we were communicating almost exclusively with the landlords.
We found the maintenance team to be unhelpful, contradictory, uncommunicative and often rude. The company did not manage the property to a satisfactory level and it was particularly upsetting for us because we had a newborn in this property without a fully functioning kitchen or heating.
Whether you are a tenant or a property owner I would suggest that you avoid Hancock and Partners.
