We put a reservation fee down on a property with Victoria Knight over a week ago. We were told the property was ours and that it had been taken off the market. We began doing everything necessary to move home.
Whilst trying to get all of our paperwork together, the agent suddenly began to threaten that our payment of £500 would be lost if we didn't get paperwork over within two hours (we were all at work). We should have smelt a rat then... After we got everything across, the agency suddenly became very quiet.
We tried calling the agent and office all day last Tuesday, when they repetitively hung up our phone calls, but surprisingly answered when we rang from withheld? They then said they would email and call my cousin back, but nothing. So I called one final time (from a new number) and was greeted with possibly the most incompetent receptionist ever. When I asked if they simply didn't care about helping us, she responded with: Um. She didn't even pretend to care! The height of excellent customer service. She kept putting me on hold, then coming back with some sassy comment about us not sending over the paperwork, or not showing how we had been paid. WE SENT IT ALL OVER AFTER YOU THREATENED US THREE DAYS AGO. Finally they said all was well, and we began signing contracts.
Suddenly yesterday, we received a phone call to say that the landlord had given the property to someone else. What? Isn't the point of a reservation fee that we reserve the property? Apparently, our reservation fee and contract signing were only with the estate agent and not the landlord. We were never notified of that, and we were told the property was ours. When the agent was questioned, he noted that he was also upset about this falling though because he would be loosing his commission. Oh, I'm so sorry for you that you have lost out on your commission. Much worse than us now being homeless! If they had just been upfront a week ago, instead of ignoring our calls and trying to divert attention away from their incompetence, none of this ever would have happened.
I know estate agents have a reputation for being snakey, but these guys really did take it to the next level. Unprofessional and quite frankly a bunch of morons.
Comment on agent fees
About the same as the rest
