Shame on you Philip Martin Lettings... Why aren't these people being held to account? Following a pretty issue-free 2 year rental I received a Section 21 notice in the post. No telephone call (mobile and work number provided). No letters. No emails. All I'd had was a contractor call me to fit another smoke alarm as one had malfunctioned just before a routine inspection. I had cancelled the contractor as my daughter went down with Norovirus and did what I have done throughout the 2 years tenancy....bought one myself. But fair enough - the Landlord wants his property back. That's what I thought, and duly applied for an alternative property in Truro (nice and early so I had time to redecorate my daughter's room, as I had promised). Yesterday - 27/10/21 - I was informed not only was I not approved to move forward with the new tenancy, but also that I had lost my holding deposit. Why? Because of the reference Philip Martin had provided. A reference so dire, apparently, that the agents were not prepared to accept my application for any other property...A reference for which I now have to apply to be disclosed. I have done so by the way. To summarise: I have been served notice and at the same time prevented from renting anywhere else. Logical steps: -Speak to the branch manager. The website gives names not titles - I can't identify whom to speak to. -Raise a concern/complaint. 'Complaints procedure' 'No procedure available' FYI The person who has signed the Section 21 letter is called Saskia Wilkes (which flags up as, 'currently does not exist' on the tag staff members). So back to my original question: Why aren't these people being held to account? My guess is that those of us who rent are considered somehow 'less than'. On behalf of others like me I would like to say: I am a key worker. I was charged with leading a team to protect vulnerable adults throughout the Covid-19 pandemic - which we succeeded in doing. To date we have lost no one. Along side others I worked over sixty hours some weeks. I was never furloughed. I am considered a high earner. I am considered well qualified. I have a vulnerable young adult living with me. I do claim any benefits. I have never missed a rent payment, nor have I ever made a late payment. There has to be more protection for people like me.
