I have observed and experienced Katie Fitzgerald at work as new manager of Staines / Egham branch. I have now 4 properties let and managed by Martin & Co. (staines upon Thames and Egham) I believe, Katie has proved to me and my family that she has the rare personal and profational quality of keeping a balanced economic interest of her employer (which we as a family believe, is of paramount importence) the interest of landlords and the welfare of tenants (following my informal chats with the tenants.. We further believe that if Katie remains as the branch manager, she definately will take the standers of the branch much higher. In short, My family and I are minded to bring our rented properties to Martin & Co as and when opportunaties come about.

The previous management/ownership was absolutely DREADFUL. Maintenance issues were ignored or unacknowledged and, in the case of my boiler going out, I was without hot water for over two weeks. Getting in contact with anyone and getting anything actioned was worse than pulling teeth. Furthermore, they did not keep up with documentation once my lease needed renewal and often my landlady would message me to see what was going on because she wasn’t getting any answers either.
This all changed on 1st May 2021 when Doreen Rose became the owner and took over management. It is an entirely new experience! Doreen is very hands-on and cares about giving her clients the best service possible. Communication is now timely, clear, and consistent. When there are maintenance issues, they are acknowledged within an hour and further info/communication takes place by the end of the business day. I don’t have to follow up constantly anymore to get any information or assistance! Martin and Co. now makes me feel valued as a tenant, and cared for as well. I am now really happy to be renting through them!

After an initially positive valuation meeting I had a terrible experience with this agent throughout the 8 week contract term. Marketing was poor: my house was launched online with no pictures, no EPC and no floorplan for 3 days which meant it effectively missed all daily property alerts. Attraction was heavily impacted with low single figure interest in the first 3 weeks and then a number of seemingly non-existent people were offered up who didn't attend viewings. Within 3 weeks it was obvious this was going nowhere; a confusing contract situation with another agent was then created in an attempt to resolve things but still no viewings through Martin & Co. Eventually a dressing down by phone from the sales manager was the final nail in the coffin so I just let the contract end and took my business elsewhere. I recommend for sales that you do the same. Steer clear.

Avoid like the plague. Can i give 0 stars. Do not know legislation and will not make landlord stick to the tenancy or legislation when it is a landlord matter ie structural or electrical matter. Let landlords leave mouldy properties on the market and on checkout still hold against the tenant... Read Full Review
Comments on Agent Fees
Fees are obscene. Charged new tenancy fee each year even although tenancy was never actually changed . Treat tenants as cashcows.

Rude when most of the time when they know they are in a weak position and lazy when THEY need to do something. ONLY landlord focussed. Will leave families homeless.

We were new to the lettings market so approached a number of firms. We were impressed from the outset with the responsiveness and level of personal attention given to our relatively small letting by Joy Cook, one of Martin and Co's principals. Joy happily provided contact details from other satisfied landlords and we approached them for feedback, which proved to be positive. The referencing process at the outset fortunately weeded out a couple of bad eggs and we soon had well-referenced and suitable tenants in place - and Martin and Co swiftly built a good working relationship with them. Throughout the letting, Martin and Co were quick to deal with any issues which arose. Something we really appreciated was Martin and Co's ability to get competent professionals / tradesmen to the property to deal with various legislative requirements and any problems arising with the property: without that, letting our house would have been much more stressful. The entire team at Martin and Co is friendly, knowledgeable, professional and, above all, responsive and competent. Highly recommended.

They do not consider the needs of the tenant and only look out for themselves and the landlord. Not very flexible or informative. I would not recommend them as they are quite unpleasant. My issue with them is how the proceed with issues relating to the property and when we moved out. They were not helpful or supportive. The only time they act accordingly is when money is involved. I felt used and not valued at all as a customer or tenant.
