The agency is now avoiding all our calls and emails. They say they will ring us back but they never do. Last time we rang them they just hung up on us in the middle of the call.

I've lived with my family in a property managed by Martin &Co Derby for 13 years . In all this time we've never had as much as a crossed word with any of the staff new and old ,or with the kind and helpful owners sian and David. As you can imagine over the 13 years I've encountered financial hardship or housing benefit problems, and everytime I've been able to discuss and seek help with the guys at the office. You don't stay with a company this long if you wasn't happy with the service given. Congratulations for the awards you have recently won ? great company !!!

This is a review of the 2 people at the top of their Derby centre office: the director and the proprietor. Everyone else there -wholesome people.
1. Boiler needed reviewing. They sent the technician to just walk in my housemate's room (that's where the boiler is). I happen to catch the technician as he was entering. He explains. After checking with my housemate, I tell him nobody told us anything. He calls the director and immediately you could tell this person thinks he's better than us. Eventually, he's just blaring 'I don't need anyone's permission...just get in there.' The tech tells him about the obstacle and the big man decides to strut over himself to show who's 'in charge,' I imagine. He comes down beating his chest and looking down. After a few exchanges, the obvious is he clearly has no idea of human rights, privacy, decency, professionalism, to say nothing of his arrogance and disrespect. 'It's a legal requirement. I don't need your permission. I only have to give notice' he goes in the end. Poor thing didn't realise he put his foot in his mouth because I obviously follow with 'well, give us notice, then,' and just looked at him. Oh, he lost it. You could almost see his ego exploding and his face just reddening, steaming and just losing control of itself. To top up my inner laughter but also his own lowliness, he throws over his shoulder from a safe distance 'this is none of your business.' Do you guys understand why people like him get like that? Because we f-ing let them! 2. Suddenly, I needed to get out fast – covid times and I found out my housemate was taking no precautions; he was seeing people from all over on a regular basis. The director himself shows me some rooms. I know I was in a pinch, but none of these places were decent enough. Take covid test, move with partner for a while, keep looking. But apparently, that didn't sit well with our good director, cause we were having a phone conversation about it and he clearly believed he was doing me personal favours by doing his job properly, so I tell him that and he f-s me off and hangs up. 3. I bring the previous matter through their complains system. Turns out, the head honcho, says that I by me protecting privacy and demanding respect I was 'blocking and interfering' during the boiler incident and that I'm lying about being f-ed off, treated unprofessionally, disrespectfully and frankly uncautiously, too - what if I had been a vulnerable person, to say nothing of the fact they should have been understanding about my increased risk of getting covid from living with a lunatic. She told me 'I suggest you channel your energy into finding alternative accommodation... I will not be responding to you again on this matter.' also 'Please continue your tenancy in a 'tenant like manner' until you vacate.' Therefore, me complaining about their lowly, unprofessional, entitled, pompous behaviour is 'untenantly', ladies and gentlemen. So, according to their complaints policy if I want to take the matter further I have to contact the proprietor. Guess who she was? Indeed, the person who just called me a liar and told me I should go somewhere else.

Without a doubt the most DIABOLICAL renting experience I have ever had. Martin and co are shambolic, their service is terrible and the staff are the most unhelpful individuals I have ever came across. To begin with when I viewed the property I was told the other tenants were proffessionals who were women and a mature student who was male which seemed ideal. Upon moving into the property I found out he was a convicted violent criminal. He had been kicked out of University for not disclosing his record and was being allowed to live in the property until his student finance ran out. I contacted Martin and Co about this to be told its 'none of my business who the other tenants are' which i find disgraceful. As a paying tenant and a young women; I have every right to know if someone who I am living under the same roof as compromises my safety. In the following three months he resided in the property he was often drunk and verbally abusive towards myself and other tenants.
Maintenance reports were frequently ignored or dealt with ineffectively. For example our landlord bled the radiators and didn't increase boiler pressure, therefore we lost heating in the middle of January. Their solution was to provide 4 heaters, 2 of which didn't work and left 2 of us freezing cold. One of my housemates has thick mould grow up one wall in her room during the winter months which is clearly some kind of structural/ damp issue, their advice is to 'open a window'. They are quite frankly useless.
The landlord constantly enters the property without giving notice which is a breach of the tenancy agreement. Martin and Co do not care about this unproffessional and inappropriate behaviour.
Also two days prior to me leaving the property I was putting some things in the bin when my groundfloor room door blew shut, leaving me locked out. I called Martin and Co as luckily I had my phone in my pocket, they told me I would have to walk to town to get some keys from them. I informed them I had no shoes or coat and it was a 20 minute walk to which they responded thats not our issue. Luckily I managed to open the door with other methods or I would of been locked out of my room for the forseeable future!
I have been renting for 6 years both professionally and as a student and this is without a doubt the most disgraceful service I have ever recieved. DO NOT RENT WITH MARTIN AND CO

I lived at the property for 2years, my contract ended after the first year. I went on a monthly rental. I always paid my rent promptly. Two months before I moved out I lost my job. I was unable to pay the rent for the last two month to when I was due to move out. I called David and explained to him he was so kind and said to me as long as I give him a time frame of when j would pay the outstanding balance then all is well. I then set two dates with the months after I moved out promising I will call back into their office to make the payments which I did. David had initially told me he won't charge me the £75 fee for late payment of my rent when we had that phone conversation. Moving after paying the outstanding rent, then went on DPS website to request for my £100 deposit. I had the claim rejected because they where claim £15 Off the money for not cleaning the room I occupied. This wasn't true as I did clean the room and the landlord of the house was there to witness it all. I called the landlord and he said the £15 was down to a draw that I cracked during my stay at the property. Now that is perfectly understandable. I went back to martin & co to tell them i agree to the counter claim and all they need to do was to go back on the DPS websit to chang their counter claim to £15 then i can have £85 paid back to me. It has been weeks of counter emails with sian who have been very unhelpful telling me things like if you had paid you final rent on time their would have been a delay with repaying you deposit. I am of the opinion that I have completed the outstanding balance surely the principle would be that I get my own money back. She then added that I also need to be aware she didn't charge me for late payment fee which David had initially told be I wasn't going to be charge this amount as long as I give them a specific time that I was going to pay of my rent. Furthermore, sian kept telling me they have their manage at DPS working on getting my money back but truely this was all bullshit because I called DPS myself almost a dozen times and they said martin &co haven't contacted them regarding my deposit and they sent of an email to martin & co regarding my deposit and these incompetent people working for martin & co failed to respond to the email. I have since sent off a statutory declaration form which was signed by my lawyer to get my money back. THIS COMPANY IS HIGHLY INCOMPETENT AND HAS NO INTEREST OF THE TENANT AT HEART. AVOID AT ALL COST. THEY ARE JUST OUT TO MAKE PROFIT

Fees were fair I'd recommend again the 2 issues were disappointing but the overall experience was good. They put my property back on market for a fair admin charge, and allowed me release on finding new tenant when I had to move for work.

2. The time taken to fix a leaking roof was also appalling. I had water constantly pouring in ceiling every time it rained. I had to cancel weekend plans to go away as at one point it was filling up a bucket every 8 hours during heavy rain and I didn't want to come back to a flooded flat.

Expensive fees overall which was compounded by their apathetic approach to finding tenants. I gave notice to leave and was charged a fee of £270 as it was claimed the tenant finding service fee was due.

Sticking to the facts, the following reasons led to me finding ‘anyone' else: Not proactive with finding new tenants and minimising voids. Expensive fees when compared to the quality of service. I was not paid rent for 3 months, Martin & Co didn't even notice A large urine stain on the carpet was not noticed on a tenant's check out. Poor communication, although Holly P seemed to be the only positive to speak of. I received rude and threatening emails when I suggested leaving.
An appalling overall service with much left to be desired. Seriously do yourself a favour and use absolutely anyone else.

Terrible communication skills in this branch. I viewed a property in Derby on the 1st August. When I got to the property, I was told by the agent who showed me round that somebody else had viewed the house before me and wanted the room. She then told me that the room would be offered to the first person to pay the £90 application fee. I asked how to do this as I had travelled over an hour to view the room as I don't live locally at the moment. The agent then told me to go to the office to pay the £90 and the room would be mine. I went into the office straight after the viewing, paid the fee and then had to give my email address to receive the forms. I was told in the office I had to fill in the form and could then sort out a move in date. However, I received a phone call today from the office saying that the room had been given to someone else as they had sent the form in before me, despite the fact I was told I had secured the room by paying the fee. When I told the agent on the phone about what I was told, she just said that the other person put the form in before me. I feel that there is no communication between the agents in the office as I was told one thing by one person and something different by another. I was then told that there were 2 more rooms available but at a higher cost than the original room. The agent I spoke to on the phone apologised but I feel that it was much too late. To top it off, my guarantor's boss received a phone call from the office to get a reference for her! Even though I had been told several hours before I no longer had the room! I was then told that this was an 'error'. So I am now left with no house and only 3 weeks to find one! Avoid this agent if possible!

Disgusting shoddy , dodgy company. Highly questionable contract handling - Landlords avoid !!- they will not handle lettings in your best interest then try and sting you with made up fees. Unauthorised work charges - you will get them !! They Don't answer emails especially McKnight , highly unprofessional company. Use professional lettings* instead. Unless you want a questionable service, high fees and dodgy court actions that is. Furthermore they are signed up to the Ombudsman scheme but they do not adhere to it and don't make it obvious either.

The director of Derby's branch David McKnight was extremely unprofessional. I am a tenant who moved into one of the property managed by Martin and Co. The place i initially decided to moved in comes furnished, David the director of the office, decided to incur a furnishing charge at the week before i moved in. After negotiating, it was then agreed for him to deliver what was initially promised.
On the day i moved in, the energy utilities was found to be on overdraft, which i had to pay off to get the gas and electricity working. I tried asking for reimbursement, David, the director of the Derby Martin & Co. responded in the rudest way humanly possible, and until now i still have not receive any reimbursement.

We rented a property for 18 months with this letting agent. I have never known such incompetent unorganised office. Towards the end of the tenancy we had a number of viewings on the property where Martin and co did not inform us and let themselves in the property. We also had potential tenants turning up at the property and Martin and co failed to meet them so had to show people round as they had made the journey. At the end of the tenancy I had asked for the original inventory to be emailed to me. They failed to do this claiming they are unable to send. When it came to 'the checkout appointment' (charging £75) to hand the keys over I went to the property and they had already inspected the property and made their final conclusions. When we were told what we were being fined for I asked for them to find the old inventory to compare as the damages were done prior to us moving in (a carpet stain and a cracked patio slab to the back garden). In conclusion Martin and Co had lost the original inventory and charged us off our deposit for 'damages'.
