I rented out my property with Karl Tatler from January 2016 and all was fine until December 2019 when my tenant lost his job and couldn't pay the rent.
The staff continuously blamed members of the team that do not work there anymore for missing tenancy agreements and an inventory not being signed (means am not covered for malicious damage). Documented in emails
Did not know about and didn't listen to me advising them that you can have universal credit that is paid to the tenant by the government paid to the letting agents direct (because of this incompetence there was a delay of 9 months before tatlers applied for direct payments under UC even though I told them numerous times), I also tried to do this myself but they refused to give me the tenants date of birth so I couldn't do it myself. Documented in emails
When going to the possession hearing I asked tatlers to go on my behalf for a fee which they refused which meant I had to go myself and meet this tenant anyway even though I was constantly advised not to get in touch with him, I was advised by Tatlers that only the landlord can attend which again is not true it is the landlord or agent that must attend also a fully trained solicitor can go on there own. Documented in emails
Once I got possession in court Tatlers decided to terminate our contract bearing in mind that the tenant is still there and can only be removed by bailiffs and they chose the tenant basically leaving me holding the baby. I raised all of these concerns with Debbie Evans, all my concerns are documented via email proving that they did happen but Debbie still seemed to think that there is nothing to improve on at Karl Tatler and there staff did everything correct.
The fact that they terminated the contract after I raised these issues shows that they should be avoided at all cost, they're very stubborn and take things personally when it's meant to be a business where they should be looking to continuously improve.
Also the reviews for Tatlers overall is rated as 2 stars (not surprised), this I found is the lowest on the Wirral.
My tenant might sound like a nightmare tenant but after court we gained a very good rapport and get on well. Weirdly he paid his arrears off shortly after Tatlers terminated our contract and he had his own issues with them aswell which I won't go into.
