If I could have left a 0 I would have done. We rented a commercial property through David James in 2016. On moving into the property it turned out that it did not have the correct usage permissions and so over the 12 months we were there we experienced fortnightly visits from the council, bailiffs and police. The landlord could only be described as the landlord from hell and whilst I cannot place blame on David James for their actions, they are fully responsible for not performing the correct checks on the property, admitting liability when they applied directly to the council for change of use for the property whilst footing the bill. We are now 4 years on since we left the property and we still are not able to retrieve our deposit that David James hold. The landlord will not respond to requests for it back and has since gone on to ignore contact from a litigation lawyer. David James will now not accept any wrongdoing, to say their staff have been unpleasant to deal with would be an understatement. They are rude, direct, dismissive and have driven me int a state of deep depression. Having made them aware of my financial situation and the fact that I am suffering badly at the moment, their response has been "not our problem". Morally they have a responsibility to reimburse me for the deposit however it seems morals and consciousness go out the window at David James unless you can benefit them.
