Horrible letting agent. Very unprofesskonal, poor communication via the phone and will inform all my friends to avoid this letting agent.

I have rented my property with Ben Charles estate agents, Durham since August 2016 and would definitely recommend their service. They have an excellent team and all of the staff I have dealt with have been friendly, approachable, and efficient. All of the staff have been very responsive to emails and always provide regular email updates with payments, arrears, court work, viewings and any work required in the property. My flat has been let out 3x and each time the company have managed to find a tenant and let the property within a week and complete all of the necessary documents with no hassle. I have always been kept up to date by phone, email and text at every step of the way and honest and feedback has been provided by the team. I have worked closely with the Director Ben Waldram over the last 12 months regarding missed rental payments resulting in correspondence with the High Court. He has been extremely composed, accommodating, down to earth and has always been willing to assist. He has kept me updated throughout the entire process and was able to explain the process in simple terms and answer any questions that I had. He has recently secured a successful outcome on the case and I could not have done this complicated process without him! I know my rental property is in good hands using this company and I know that the staff are always on hand to offer support and reassurance as needed.

I have greatly appreciated bencharles' professional and friendly service. After an unfortunate escape of water halted plans to move into a selected rental less than two weeks before the move, bencharles worked to ensure that I would have a temporary place to stay while repairs (of several months duration) were conducted. The bencharles team helped facilitate as smooth a move up to Durham as possible under the circumstances. Ben, Emma, and Gill & the team members I have worked most closely with over this process - have been helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. I would recommend bencharles unreservedly.

Are reasonably efficient, however we were charged cleaning fees for dusting on leaving our rented property when we were advised when we arrived we only had to leave it as clean as what we found it. After looking at photos when we moved in and when we left the property, I am confident it was left cleaner. There was no professional cleaning work done for us before we moved in and given its state I am sure they will have charged the previous tenant for cleaning work. Interesting to see if we get a receipt or photos of the cleaning work we are having to pay for when completed to see exactly what our fee has been spent on... Were also very slow at fixing our French door when broken, we had to chase the office after no response from our initial phone call and only fixed when a prospective tenant had booked a viewing.

I'm a working professional who can more than afford to pay for this place yet Ben Charles (owner) took it upon himself to turn a potential tenant away. I hope the landlord is more than happy with their property standing empty at the behest of the estate agent.
