The worst professional entity I've ever dealt with. From day 1 Chelton Brown lettings team has been unclear and contradictory in their communication to me, as well as being seemingly incapable of sharing important information between themselves and with the landlady. In addition, they; - Failed to update the deposit documentation and insisted that my ex would receive the deposite back, for which they were reported to the Property Ombudsman. - Failed to document there was a pet at the property - despite email confirmation and an additional £200 being paid in to the deposit - to the extent where it was falsely reported in the final inspection. - Tried to justify charging more as an admin fee for a 12 month contract (£130) as opposed to a 6 month contract (£75) without any justification. This amount was finally refunded to me after numerous complaints. - Gave an unsatisfacory reference to a prospective agent during the final week of tenancy that resulted in a new property falling through, despite 3 years without issue regarding payment. They were reported to the Property Ombudsman again regarding this. - Failed to inform the landlady to the point where - on the penultimate day of tenancy - she turned up at the property without notice (in direct violation of the contract). - Threatened to charge me for an extra day if I didn't return 1 key to the office before the final inspection took place, despite the fact that I (and anyone else in a rented property for that matter) could easily make as many copies of keys as I wanted and access the property at any time after any move-out date. Total lack of common sense. - Failed to make contact of any sort after 10 days of move-out date, to the point where I had no choice other than to dispute this with the tenancy deposit scheme. They then took a further 10 days to provide evidence, all while having absolutely no regard for the fact that I was nearly £1400 out of pocket due specifiaclly to their negligible effort. - Upon the dispute being raised, contacted my ex (who hadn't lived at the property for almost a year) and requested that she inform the TDS that she did not want to dispute any deductions, in an effort to avoid repercussions through adjudication of the case. - Recorded in the final inspection that the property had not been cleaned, despite their own documentation stating that the majority of areas were to the standard of the check-in, a direct contradiction. Furthermore, supported the landlady in claiming over £300 of cleaning bills against the deposit (including a fee due to the unrecorded pet, as above). I spent an entire weekend plus took an additional 2 days of annual leave to clean the property. - Supported the landlady in making a claim of £700 against the deposit for redecorating, recording in the final inspection that I had painted the downstairs of the property to a poor standard, when infact the poor level of renovation related to the previous tenant, a fact they failed to record. The landlady is selling the property, and thus any redecoration is to add value to the house for it's sale. Frankly disgusting that this claim was put in. - Supported a number of undocumented claims by the landlady, including a deduction for a new toilet seat (despite this not being recorded at all in the final inspection) and time spent cleaning exterior windows (again, not recorded, and frankly ridiculous to be charged for someone's time to apparently clean part of their own house post-tenancy without any evidence of any sort). It's now almost March, and despite moving out 50 days ago I'm yet to receive any of my deposit back. The lack of decency and inability on Chelton Brown's part to treat people like people and not the contracts from which they make their money is sickening. I'm no longer a tenant and therefore Chelton Brown - despite being directly responsible for any financial predicament I may have found myself in due to their infathomable incompetence - don't care. I have now moved elsewhere through a private landlord, as Chelton Brown have genuinely put me off ever using an agency again. I eagerly await a response from the Ombudsman on the numerous complaints I have made, and would highly recommend avoiding entering in to any contract with this agency.

Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
Once a complaint is registered with the branch, a Manager will be allocated to investigate and respond to the complaint via phone and then follow up in writing.
