Chiltern Hills Estate Agents in High Wycombe was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with dealing with a company. From start to finish, every aspect of dealing with the people who work here has been awful. I would give 0 Stars if possible. When we initially checked in to our accommodation, there was a plant growing up the wall in the living room, the roots of which were metres long which travelled underneath the carpet from a nearby airbrick. Additionally, this the house was infested with woodlouse and mould which had been left unattended despite the fact that Chiltern had assured us that the house had been professionally cleaned prior to our moving in. The agent who met us at the house upon our initial arrival did not give us enough of or even the correct keys, resulting in them having to give us their spare set – this issue was never resolved. Over the year of living there, many more issues with the house arose, including but not limited to the gas oven making terrifying noises (which we alerted them of, and which they did nothing about), before months later actually leaking gas which resulted in a small fire. Upon notifying Chiltern Hills of this incident, they did not have any care in the world about our personal safety, and did not acknowledge that we had sent them multiple emails warning them about the strange noises coming from the oven months prior. The house that we had lived in had a large garden and we were assured by Chiltern that they had a private gardener come throughout the year to tend to the garden. This notion is laughable, as the two times that a gardener actually came to the house over the entire year was a result of our constant pestering to send someone over due to the fact that the grass had reached waist height on both occasions. Upon reaching the time of checking out, it was clear that Chiltern were desperately and pathetically trying to grasp at every penny possible to keep out of our deposit of �1906, meaning that they wanted to claim �120 for carpet cleaning and �145 for removing blue-tack marks which were on the wall. I even asked one of the agents there if he, as a human being, thought that �145 for blue tack marks was a ridiculous claim and even he said that he would appeal if it were him. To add insult to injury, these marks were made by the tenants before us and which were visible on the inventory check-in. Luckily, we had our carpets cleaned by a family friend and we were able to produce the invoice thus negating the former cost, however we were told that if we wished to appeal the latter claim that an additional check out would have to take place. This would mean that not only would we have to pay the inventory fee of �200 for the first check-out, but also an additional �200 for a second one, meaning that they were taking even more money from us. On top of this ridiculous claim of �145 to remove some blue-tack, the agent dealing with our deposit (Ali) actually miscalculated our deductions, as according to him they were going to remove �365 from our deposit as opposed to the correct amount of �345. Any child with a calculator or more than two brain cells can add together 200+145, showing they were just trying to get more money from us. These complaints may be very specific to my situation, however as a student, many of my friends had also accommodated with Chiltern Hills and they all had very similar issues in regards to the return of their deposit. Another extremely universal issue with this company is the fact that none of the people who work there care to acknowledge any of the emails you send them, even if you re send them over and over again, and even if they are of extreme importance (e.g. an exploding oven). The fact that they constantly ignore you and have no respect for you leads to dangerous living conditions, as not only did the oven catch fire, but the ivy on the front of the house was actually coming through the bricks and creating large cracks in the wall, as well as the fact that there was mould everywhere. Chiltern did nothing and they did not care. I'm sure this review could go on for much longer but it is already long enough. Some advice for people thinking about working with Chiltern Hills: don't. Advice for people who have already signed a contract: take lots and lots and LOTS of DETAILED pictures on the day you move in AND on the day you move out after everything is clean. This will help you so much when they try to con you out of your deposit at the checkout, because believe me they will. Also try to get everything they say to you in writing, this way if you wish to take legal action with them you have the most amount of evidence to help you. And good luck, you're going to need it.
