Cairn was founded by David Rowand in 1999 when, having been involved in property for more than 20 years, he realised there existed a tremendous opportunity to establish a company that could be much more than ‘just an estate agent’.
Founded to address a distinct lack of agents in the marketplace providing a tea
m of informed experts able to provide a personal service, Cairn began as a development company, refurbishing properties to sell on behalf of clients.
As this aspect of the business grew, several clients retained the firm’s services and sought a broader range of advice. This led Cairn into ‘sourcing’ properties for clients and developing properties on their behalf; a service which soon became an integral aspect of the business by removing the hassle factor from finding properties and developing them before selling or letting them on its clients’ behalf.
This was the key that developed other aspects of the business, such as a maintenance team created to deliver these services which now comprises builders, plumbers, electricians, tilers and plasterers.
A letting division was then formed, which now manages some 400 units. The letting staff boast a wealth of experience and knowledge. Delivering a high level of service to landlords and tenants alike, they provide a fully-managed option and tenant-finding service, once again relieving clients of any hassle associated with the management of their investments.
The firm also has experienced staff on hand to handle HMO (House of Multiple Occupancy) enquiries and to help guide clients through this complex process.
Cairn most recently introduced a sales division. Now a thriving part of the operation, this department comprises a team with over 35 years experience of property sales between them. A personal approach is a central feature of Cairn and its sales team is on hand 24/7 to reassure clients throughout what can sometimes be a stressful process.

I can only preface this by saying that some of what I had to go through with this agency is my own fault. It's my fault that as soon as I walked into their office that I didn't trust my gut and immediately leave never to return. Just how utterly inept this agency was became very apparent on day one. After coming into the office to fill in an application for a flat, I headed home (naively) feeling hopeful, despite knowing deep down that an office populated by workers who were younger than me (I was 24 at the time) was bound to be chaos. About a week passes and I've heard nothing so I call them to see what's going on. No answer. An hour later I call again and someone answers and rather rudely tells me it's their lunch break and they'll phone me back. So of course, a whole day later and I've still not heard anything, so I call again to ask about my application. It's been "misplaced" and they'll get on it. Again, of course, silence for about a week. Would you believe they still didn't get round to it? So I go in person to sort it out and it's time to fork over every penny I have for the "holding fee", deposit, the first months rent, and a pile of other fees such as a whopping £150 reference check. For the next two years I'm subjected to all manner of pain in the backside, from constant "£50 renewal fees" every 6 months on the contract, to flat inspections that no one shows up to or comes on the wrong date or just unannounced, various repairs that go unfixed (such as mold, and windows that couldn't even open or close). I finally see a glimmer of light, I'm moving out. I ask for my deposit protection scheme number several times by email and each time they duck me. Looks like they couldn't even perform the most basic legal requirements. After moving out I get an email from the owner of this shambles of a company, demanding that I pay him all those earlier mentioned contract renewal fees, despite him knowing that they're illegal. I will say that I did hand over £50 the first time because I didn't know any better. I told him as much, he replied that he didn't receive anything. So there's two conclusions here. He's either a liar, or his staff are thieves. After being subjected to this horror shop I believe it's both. Check their Facebook, the only positive reviews they have are from staff. Look at their photos. Every Friday they enjoy cake and wine in their office. Is there where all those illegal fees are going? Is this why they don't reply to urgent repairs or enquiries? This joke of a company doesn't even deserve a single star. tl;dr illegal fees, staffed by dangerously inept individuals, never reply to you, will purposefully neglect their duties, even their legal duties.

29 May 2018I have read your comments and would invite you to contact me directly via the office so i can go through all your points and resolve the issues that you have or have had. I would never be involved in the accounts side so cannot see how i would have e-mailed any tenant direct. However if you contact me we can hopefully resolve.

31 May 2018There's nothing to refute, and if you think I want to waste another moment of my time dealing with your company you're mental. Absolutely nothing you can say or do can make up for how this office operates. I only hope the trove of illegal fees you charge tenants have been looked at, but I doubt that. Similar review or no, how you and your staff operate is shameful, and I'd expect you lot to focus more on doing your jobs than farting about* eating cake that tenants are paying for. Spend less time trawling the internet for poor reviews and spend a little more time looking inwards why tenants might be so disgruntled.

31 May 2018The two reviews you allege by the same person are two different properties and two radically different experiences. My review I stated it was my first property, the other review the person said 9 or so properties, so how are you conflating the two? This is the standard of service your handing out so don't act so aghast when the reviews come in.
