I called Cowell-Norford last Wednesday to book a viewing of a bungalow in Littleborough. The viewing was booked for the Friday that week at 10:30am. I explained on the telephone that we were travelling up from south Wales especially for viewings (the plan is to relocate in early January 2016).
We didn't hear from Cowell-Norford in the interim, so we assumed the viewing was still going ahead. We arrived 10 minutes early for the viewing. At 10:30am no one had shown up, so I called Cowell-Norford. I was told that the person conducting the viewing was on their way, but that they were stuck in traffic and would be there in under 10 minutes. By 11am there was still no sign of Cowell-Norford, so I called them again. I was told that the person who was supposed to be conducting the viewing had "not bothered" to turn up that morning, and that someone else would be sent instead. I was also told that the keys for the bungalow had gone missing, and that the Lettings Manager would be back soon to sort it all out. Forty minutes after our viewing appointment was meant to take place, a lady turned up looking flustered, didn't introduce herself (I had to ask if she was from Cowell-Norford) and said she was on her day off but had been "roped in" at the last minute to do this viewing. She then stood in silence while we showed ourselves around the property, obviously itching to get on with her day off.
Against our better judgement we decided to go ahead with the application, as we really liked the property and the location. We drove to their Rochdale office and spoke to the lady on the front desk. She said an email with all of the referencing and fee information would be sent to us that afternoon, so that we could have a chance to look at it/fill it in over the weekend (again, I mentioned that we were on quite a tight schedule and had come from Wales especially). The email never arrived (even after I chased it via email), and they refused to pick up the telephone when I called.
I emailed over the weekend asking what was going on with this and expressing how terrible their customer service was, and I received an email this morning saying that they had done their best "under the circumstances" and that I had in fact been kept up to date via telephone on the day of the viewing (?????).
This particular property has been advertised on their website and elsewhere since early October 2015 and has already been reduced in price. Cowell-Norford do not seem bothered about letting properties, which surely doesn't benefit either the landlord or the prospective tenant? We have (unsurprisingly) decided not to proceed with the application, as we have zero faith in Cowell-Norford as a company.
