Having almost bought a property that it later emerged had flooded (our previous estate agent chided us for pulling out of the purchase and told us we were 'being silly') we went to Helmores - principally becuase they seemed to specialise in lovely mid-Devon properties of the type we wanted.
From the moment we started dealing with them, they were professional, knowledgeable, helpful, honest and generally brilliant. Thanks to what can only be described as 'challenging' circumstances surrounding our purchase - mortgage brokers so inept they almost cost us the house etc - we needed Helmores and were in constant dialogue with them throughout the three months we spent looking for, and eventually buying, our first home.
Over that time we've met, and been greatly impressed by, the whole team at their Crediton office. Unlike other firms who, when your case worker isn't available, pass you on to their nearest colleague, who may know nothing about your progress etc, we felt that we could talk to anyone at Helmores and they'd all know the score - an invaluable asset, and a sign of great communications and teamwork.
At the centre of all of this, dealing with vendors threatening to pull out of the sale on exchange day, brokers not brokering anything, and general everyday chaos, was Ian Blanchford, our agent and Helmores' office manager. What can I say? If you want an agent who's conscientious, tenacious, willing to act as counsellor, verbal punchbag, mediator and referee, look no further. The man's a complete legend, basically. Then again, the whole team are awesome, so as much as Ian should take great credit for his role in all this, the team deserve equal praise.
I wouldn't hesitate to use Helmores again if the need arose - in fact I wouldn't bother going to any other agent, as they are superb in all respects. Thanks so much for all your help, guys - much appreciated.

Covid 19 struck the UK in March 2020, the initial damp was reported in January 2019, and it took till October 2019 to carry out any inspection. A report was passed to Helmores shortly after this in early November 2019. Sadly, the landlords wife did pass also in March 2020. So both incidents you mentioned occurred 14 months after the damp was raised & 5 months after the report.
