If you call them for home maintenance they person who pick phone will say the property manager is not in office. They never reply to emails. When we checked out inventory clerk write in notes 'property left in clean and tidy condition. They charged us £100 for cleaning. Poor staff with no training to speak to customers. Avoid if possible.

Just like the other reviews, not very helpful, especially when it comes to property they don't manage directly. In my opinion, someone else needs to take over that primary school like company and get him and his snobby colleagues/puppets out of there. I'd recommend the Caversham branch all day everyday!

Instructed Martin & Co to advertise my property for rental purposes. Mainly dealt with Parma & Simon. Had 3 viewings organised within 2 days of which one accepted my property. The tenants have just extended their contract for another year and have to say they have been great tenants. They have paid the rent on time and every inspection report that I have received has stated they have kept my property in a very clean condition. Very happy with the service I have received. Would use again & recommend.

My partner recently moved in to a property on Oxford Road, in Reading. I shall be having the displeasure of also becoming a customer of these cowboys (no, cowboys is too kind a term...amateurs perhaps) for the 6 month lease that we were naive enough to sign.
The under-street level flat has a mould problem, most of which was covered up by various furnishings by Martin & Co. We were told that the flat would be clean, as one would expect, yet we spent the better part of a day wiping down food and juice stains on cupboards, kitchen tops and hobs.
Moreover, the washing machine quite literally exploded with water all over the kitchen floor as the powder draw wouldn't shut properly and was jolted open by a spin cycle. This occurred 5 days ago, and as of yet, we've been promised that an electrical company (?!) will be visiting to have a look at it. Whilst we're at it, two lightbulbs were missing from the bedroom and the kitchen respectively. I brought this issue up with the dim sounding 'proprietor' and he asked, with a tone of surprise, whether or not lightbulbs had been installed before we moved into the property. That is your job Parma, not mine, and I use the term 'job' lightly as this level of incompetence is most probably the sole reason for them not being in other lines of work.
Simon is a lettings negotiator, and had not much to say when viewing the house. Whilst combing through the contract, this 'senior' lettings negotiator uttered "most of it is bla bla bla". Well colour me stupid Simon, you're not even trying to hide the fact that you want to scam people out of money.
I find it reprehensible that an inventory costs £72, so we're compiling a file of evidence (including photos, written statements and witness statements) against this housing company including the state of the flat when we moved in. Missing lightbulbs, mould being hidden by furniture, a hole in the wall with loud scratching noises at night and a broken washing machine. Then again, I wouldn't expect any notion of professionalism from a middle aged man who wears an earring and has bleached hair.
This is only thus far, but with the obvious lack of organisation, regulation and transparency, I would steer clear of Martin & Co in Reading. The one thing I do look forward to is informing these amateurs that I am a landlord myself and am perfectly aware of the rights & obligations of tenants, landlords and lettings agents.

They covered up a large patch of it in the bathroom with a piece of shelving hoping we wouldn't notice. Two lighting fixtures are completely foreign to the handyman they sent, but instead of changing them for £10, they want us to find the bulbs somehow. Our washing machine started flooding water into the kitchen, rendering it unusable. However, the manager Palma, has yet to get it replaced nearly a week later. They never explained any of the additional information about the flat to us, i.e. where our 'secure' parking was located, where our rubbish bins are supposed to go, or how to operate any of the kitchen appliances. When asked, they didn't seem to know any of this information. Completely unprofessional, don't care at all about the health and safety of their tenants, and it seems that once you sign the contract you are on your own. I would not recommend them to anyone else or ever use them again.

As soon as we signed the contract, it all went down hill! Martin &Co took no responsibility for the property. We didn't have an up to date Gas Safe certificate. When eventually the gas man did attend the property - he deemed the flu from the boiler unsafe and condemned the bedroom window shut. We then had problems with ventilation & damp. We since had had to get Environmental Health involved. Lights in the kitchen where a fire hazard - They couldn't care less! All they could say was they couldn't get hod of the landlord who was supposed to be managing the property. Our contract stipulated our deposit wound be sent to the Tenancy Deposit Scheme - Instead it was sent to the Landlord who took nearly 2 months to get the money back following our departure!!!! - What is the point of the TDS??? - They didn't seem bothered!! Trying to contact anyone in the office is a joke & they will happily sit there and fob you off, until to leave!!

They could have managed the property as they were paid to do. They could have been honest with us and gained our trust.

Unfortunately I had a similar experience to other reviewers with Martin and co. The property 'management' by Martin and co. simply did not happen, they were idle with respect to problems with the property for over a year in almost every instance. They deliberately misled us over several issues, and we were fully aware of their dishonesty through direct contact with our landlord. And yet from the looks of things, we got off pretty lightly.

We have rented the place around 4 years and paid rent on time & settled the bills. The boiler was a problem all the 4 year period & no proper windows/doors etc, flooring not good at all (vibration even if we walk), cheap quality carpet (almost like a sack).
But even then, before vacating we cleaned the house with very good condition. Only there is a small iron mark (4 inch) on one of the room and not completely burned, just turned the color.
For this, he is refused to pay back our deposit and he wants to replace the entire carpet.
The boiler was not completely working at all for the last 2 months and he was not servicing. That is the reason I gave the notice to vacate the house.
Is there is a any way to put him in court and ask for compenstation providing poor quality house & get my deposit back as well.
Anyone suggestion is appreciated.
