Genuinely terrible company, awful communication, wouldn’t fix anything that we asked them to, we got in the flat and it stank of mould, we brought this up instantly and they did nothing to rectify it and then suggested we just moved out if we weren’t happy with the flat but our deposit would not be refunded as they’d have to clean the mess that was there when we arrived, we didn’t have a working oven for 3 months, mould all over the bedroom and living room clearly the windows are not sealed properly. They just tried to throw legal jargon at me that I disproved. But they did not care at all, DO NOT RENT! Wish I could put minus 5 stars

Just had a terrible experience with the Manchester branch. Fell in love with a flat and got a video viewing (which arrived in my inbox 2 days late) - the morning after I rang back straight away to say I wanted to sign contracts etc. The man on the other end of the phone had no idea how to do that (as they’re all online at the moment) so told me his colleague would ring back within 15 mins. She didn’t. I rang 5 times throughout the day and got an automated message saying they were busy. As it was Friday I had to wait until Monday to ring again, so I sent emails instead. None were replied to at any point. I rang all day Monday. Same message on the other end. I then finally got through on the Tuesday and they acted as though they’d never heard of me and had agreed to let the flat to someone else.
Disgusted by their poor customer service and lack of apology!

The worst customer service I've ever had.
I emailed them concerning a property, no one responded to me for days when I decided to email the agency again. This time I got a single line of response which was: "Can you pay 6 month in advance?". This was the worst service I'd ever received.
I made a booking for a viewing at 3pm 11/10/2019. I rang them at half 1 when I finished work to confirm it (I've had a lot of people cancel viewings so I wanted to be sure I wasnt wasting my time).
At 2pm my housemate text me to say that on rightmove the property had been changed to Let Agreed. Since it had only been HALF AN HOUR since we spoke I figured it would be fine.
At half past two I get a phone call telling me it's no longer available. When asked how this could possibly happen Samina informed me that "the money to confirm the property was only just been received". Which is the polite way of saying that they kept me hanging around just in case the other person pulled out.
If this is how you do business (which clearly it is based off all the other 1* reviews) I dont imagine you will be very successful for much longer. You might be renting properties but at the end of the day it's a form customer service and clearly your company is lacking in that department.

Our story of Martin and Co incompetence started a month before we'd even moved in. Whilst getting shown around on the initial viewing it was apparent the balcony door handle was only one good tug away from coming off and as such we raised this as an issue whilst viewing. The letting agent showing us around assured us this would be fixed by the time we moved in (spoiler alert â it wasn't!) and also that the flat and the very grubby looking carpets would be professionally cleaned prior to moving in. Needless to say, neither was the flat cleaned to a professional standard (or they had a pretty crap cleaner as there was thick dust behind the bed) and low and behold the door handle was still ready to fall off! So we were a little surprised to see it listed as 'good condition' on the itinerary when we moved in. Obviously this was reported as being anything but good condition and alongside some other issues we reported them to Martin & Co. They did arrange with the landlord for the issues to get sorted and fair play they were all but sorted apart from one issue (and you are probably already seeing a recurring theme!) the door handle couldn't be fixed that day as they needed to order a part. Fair enough, we hoped it would be sorted sharpish but the handyman was then not forthcoming and we contacted the letting agents and were told to contact the landlord directly. He then sent someone round again to view it and we were once again told they would order a new one. A time was arranged for them to come and fix it, I waited in and no one turned up. So I rang the handyman and he wasn't aware of our appointment and was in Bradford, a good hour away from Salford. We then rearranged for him to visit later at 5pm and shock horror he failed to turn up.
I raised the issue with the letting agent (I'll call her D rather than give her full name). To say D was unhelpful is an understatement, she seemed disinterested and didn't exactly put herself out to try and get the issue sorted. Anyways fast forward a year (a whole f**king year!) to July 2017 and a heavy handed guest unaware of the dodgy nature of the handle managed to pull it off and so they were forced to finally do something about it as this was clearly a fire hazard and they managed to get it sorted in a few days. Although in true Marin and Co style they failed to turn up on the agreed day to fix it and instead turned up the day afterwards without letting us know.
The thing that also left a bad taste was the extortionate 'admin' fees. For the price they charged you'd think they would be sh*t hot at admin but they could barely respond to an email. We had to pay £75 for renewal and they even charged £36 to release a reference for my new flat. Every interaction with them felt like a shake down.
Replacing a tenant was no mean feat either, when a new tenant replaced my old flat mate they seemed to go out of their way to make things difficult. From insisting I was re-referenced to the fact they charged my flatmate £250 for referencing and again 'admin' and yet when I emailed J from Martin and Co I got an out office saying she wasn't back on the Monday when my flatmate was meant to move in on the Sunday! Worse still my new flatmate who I should add was stopping on friend's sofa, contacted her boss to ask about referencing and they hadn't even contacted her! So 3 days before the agreed move in date and they hadn't even been bothered to do the thing they extorted 250 notes for! We were obviously livid and hoped contacting her boss (snitching) would prompt a quick turnaround. Her boss was as disinterested as the rest of the low energy staff who worked there and just emailed back to say J was on holiday. No explanation, no apology, just attitude. This was always the case in any dealings with them over email â replies were either blunt and abrupt or we received no reply at all!
I think they reached their zenith however when in November 2016 during a cold snap they took a month to replace a broken heater. Despite numerous calls about it and my flatmate having to stop at his girlfriend's house due to the room being unliveable during this period without heating. They did finally fixing it but not without the usual problems. D ignoring emails and taking ages to sort out the issue although in this case the landlord was also at fault and Martin and co finally fixed it themselves and billed the landlord. However when their contractor came round to view the problem they 1) didn't inform us of his visit and 2) when they went they left our property unlocked! They then once again failed to turn up on the agreed date, turning up 2 days later with no apology.
So to sum up, if possible I'd avoid using Martin and Co like the plague. They are utter perfidious rogues.
1 star is to good for them but unfortunately, you can't leave no stars.

David Land only emails when we are supposed to renew our contract and never replies to emails we sent him with any questions or concerns. Every time I call the office, I am either being told that the appropriate person is not there and they will call me back, which they never do or that they will email me which they never do either. We had an issue with the fridge which we notified them about via email as requested and they never got back to us. They sent contractors with the new fridge after 1 week without letting us know, we realised we had a new fridge when we got home from work. Absolutely ridiculous!
Difficult to deal with and only interested in your money. I will never use them again and advise anyone that is considering it to stay away, it's not worth the hassle.

DO NOT USE THIS LETTING AGENT.
When a member of Martin&Co (Ryan) initially showed me around the property he said that he was in a rush and was unable to answer the majority of our questions about the property (misquoted us on the rent, didn't even know which furniture would be in the property).
We said that we would like to rent the property and were asked to go into the office. When we arrived we were prompted to pay £400 agency fee without seeing ANY documentation.
From this point on communication was seriously poor. We were told that we could move in on a specific date but then did not hear anything. I was ignored multiple times and eventually managed to contact martin&co on the DAY of move in. At this point we had still not seen the tenancy agreement!!!
I was told at this point that another letting agent was taking over the property. (after paying money to martin and co, ofcourse).
On one occasion when I rang martin&co, I asked to speak to Ryan. The person on the phone said he was Ryan but later on in the conversation said he was called James!
To top it all off, I made a formal complaint which I was told to email to James Murphy and never received a reply.
All staff at Martin&Co have been extremely rude, unhelpful and seem to have no idea how to do their job. The staff members involved in this situation were called James, Ryan and Jess.

The treatment I received from this letting agents was nothing short of disgusting. Firstly, £2000 of my money for deposit and first months rent was misplaced. I was told that somebody would be available to discuss this on the Saturday and when I arrived the door was locked. I had to ring numerous times and then somebody unlocked the door. There was 1 member of staff in and he said he knew nothing about where my money was. I began to get upset and complained as this was supposed to be my moving in date and they weren't releasing the keys to me on the basis that they had misplaced the funds. My bank had confirmed that the money had left my account. The member of staff that was in became very aggressive towards me and began to swear at me.
I called the manager/director or the branch the next day to discuss this and I was told that if I no longer wished to move forwards with them as a letting agent I would receive a full refund. The next day I had not received the full amount that I had paid but only a small sum of it. I called to complain and was hung up on multiple times. I then went to the branch on the Monday morning to find the doors locked. No body would answer the door and I still have not received my refund. I was told that no such agreement was made and they have refused to return my money.

I had rented an appartment this company in 2016 me and my friends had decided to make a move to Manchester and were coming up from Leicester to do so.
In all honesty the whole thing was a complete farce. There is no point booking a viewing with these agents because they aren't even able to follow processes correctly to do viewings. In your contract with them the have to give you notice before a viewing but they will not therefore we actually denied them access to the property a few times upon them attempting to let the property when we were leaving.
The same was also done to us upon attempting to view the flat which I'm assuming yet again was due to the companies lack of preparation. However with us traveling from Leicester to Manchester to view the flat and not being told until our arrival in Manchester that we couldn't view the flat this was unacceptable.
We eventually managed to get one of us to view the flat and signed our agreements however we then received a call on our moving day as we were traveling down in a moving van advising that they had not managed to clean the property yet and we wouldn't be able to move in on this day.
We eventually managed to shout our way into the apartment as no alternative was offered at all. Although we were paying from that date it was very clear that Martin & Co were expecting us to pay for our own accommodation due to their faults.
This is genuinely the most disorganised company I have come across and the staff are unhelpful. The charges that they charge for everything is disgusting. I can't actually believe they have the audacity to charge half the charges they do based on the service they provide. The charges are that bad that I had to pay £50 for a reference for my new house after I left here.
All in all if it were possible to give a rating less than 1 star I would have because if anyone in this company had half a brain cell they would be dangerous.

The fees we paid we’re fairly priced, they were cheaper than previous estate agents we had dealt with and making it one of the reasons we chose to rent with Martin&Co.

For the the last year we have been renting with Martin & Co . The overall experience in dealing with Martin & Co was a very fresh and very positive one. All of the members of staff that I have spoken to are very friendly and professional. Two members of staff in particular both Jessica Miles & Donna Phillips were very helpful during my tenancy, they were very informative following any queries I had and their response rate was fast. Both Jessica & Donna had made the experience easier and were great to deal with. I would definitely recommend Martin&Co for future tenants looking for a property in Manchester.

Also would give zero if possible. Terrible all round. The fees are shocking. Hound you for money and references but the minute you need anything from them they don't want to know. Also would give zero if possible. Terrible all round. The fees are shocking. Hound you for money and references but the minute you need anything from them they don't want to know. Poorly managed and highly unprofessional. Made my 1st renting experience nothing but stressful and far more expensive than it needed to be. I would not recommend to anyone.
