Martin and Co is the single worst estate agent I have ever know, I am begging you please do not use them. I rented a house with them for 9 months and it’s the worst experience I’ve ever had with an estate agents (I‘ve lives in 8 different rented houses before this one!!) despite asking ten separate times they refused to get me any access to contact my own land lord and they even told me he would visit one day and never turned up, I never once got to speak to him. I had unbelievable maintenance issues including but not limited to: lights with no fittings, a cellar that wasn’t sealed and caused a gale to blow through the whole house, damp like you wouldn’t believe, and a shower that leaked so aggressively it was causing damage to the infrastructure of the house, I emailed about all of these and they refused to fix them, I put in formal notice to their website that they needed fixing and they refused to acknowledge them. By the time I left the house wasn’t fit to live in and despite knowing this they moved someone new in within two weeks of me leaving. I also had issues that they kept calling me while I was at work despite repeatedly telling them not to. And is that the worst? Not by a long shot! The worst by far is one of the people who works there, a man by the name Lee who was the most disgustingly disrespectful person I have ever know, I don’t know how he ever got hired! Refusing to respond to emails, lying about maintenance (as if I wasn’t living in the house and knew what was wrong with it!), being rude and speaking down to me, hanging up the phone! The whole shebang! And now, after another staff member doing an inspection of the property upon me leaving it and agreeing it was completely fine, they’re trying to take nearly £200 of my deposit from me just for the sake of it. PLEASE, PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF AND DO NOT GO WITH MARTIN AND CO!!

I would even give them 1 star if I am honest! Leave you with out heating for 3 months in winter with a child and apparently they did everything possible to limit the inconvenience...3 months without heating I feel that's more than an inconvenience! I would even give them 1 star if I am honest! When the landlord wanted to sell the property we had to do over 15 viewings at very short notice sometimes they would just show up. At the end of the tenancy they have now kept part of our bond £120 to clean an oven! We left item behind as it was a massive rush to move out and we have asked to collect these the next day but they have refused, they are difficult, rude and greedy and I would stay away from using them.

These people have no regard for tenants there loyalties lie soley with landlords.Tenants for 2+ years with these idiots. Moved in all was well. Garage doors and chimney were never sorted. Phone calls back and forth the landlord is aquiring quotes this takes over a year apparently before finally coming back with the garage doors are going to be too expensive to replace so they are not getting done!

The rubble in the chimey needs still needs sorting 18 months after moving and everytime it rains the wall paper on the chimney breast gets wetter and wetter to the point its come off. Emailing back and forth which are mainly ignored! Please ring the elusive Jamie the decorator who either doesn't exsist or is just plain ignorant and doesn't responed to any communication. A nice lad (not Jamie) eventually came out and as was quite obvious to us fed back to Martin and Co it didn't just need repapering the rubble in the chimney needed removing. Allmost immediatley we were questioned about our plans to stay at the property and when we said we intended to stay largely due to it being close to school,works and we had fantastic neighbours nothing was heard back and everytime it rained We had rainwater running down the wall in fron room. Everytime we questioned what was happening with it we were told we are still in discussions with the landlord about his long term plans for the property. 8 long months this continued till we eventually gave our notice and within days a for sale sign went up!
DO NOT EXPECT YOUR BOND BACK FROM THESE CROOKS YOU WILL NOT GET IT. On my hands and knees on the 3rd anniversary of my childs death scrubbing paintwork only to be told the place needed a deep clean! On the inventory charged �65 to replace the silocone sealant round the bath - not sure if it was platium flecked as silicones about �2 in wilko!
Absolute frauds who have had a massive negative impact on my mental health. Rent through these and you will live to regret it. Please don't!

The service I received from Alex and Zak was disgusting to say the least! Firstly I was interested in renting one of their properties in Birkby, when I met Helen at the property she was lovely. I explained my situation which was that I have lived in a rented property in Edgerton for over 2 years and have never been late with my rent. I explained that I work full time at Kirklees college and have done for a number of years. I also explained that I do not have a great credit rating due to my ex husband being served a CCJ which unfortunately affects my rating. I said I can provide a reference from my current landlord and character references from various professionals I have worked with etc. she said no problem, I will speak to the landlord and get back to you. I had no reply so I called the office. Zak or Alex spoke to me and was very rude. He talked to me as if I was a piece of scum and said his company will not deal with me unless I have a guarantor and 3 months rent up front. Well I am not lucky enough to have family who can be a guarantor. I came off the phone feeling very upset at the way he judged me without knowing my circumstances. I went away and found the money I would need for 3 months rent,bond plus I months rent in advance. I then called back regarding a property I had seen in Lindley. Again, he spoke to me as if I was a vagrant and this time saying I need 6 months rent up front and stated this is the case for all our properties! So not only did they judge me and spoke to me as if I was some kind of tramp but then lied to me also! I'm absolutely disgusted with them. I don't want anyone to feel the way I do and this is why I am writing my review.

Saw a potentially perfect flat online so arranged viewing. Checked on phone students were accepted and was told by Helen that they were, as long as we had guarantors (which we did). The flat was for me and my partner. We viewed it, loved it, told her that and could not have been more positive about it and so we said we'd have it so I asked what do we do next to secure the property? She told me she'd ring me that afternoon to take my admin fee over the phone, so that they would then take the flat off the market. She also told us that they had no more viewings today. I got no call so rang at 5 but she'd gone home, man on phone said he'd pass message on and knew what flat I was talking about. So by lunchtime the next day, still no call so I just thought to check the online ad and it said 'let agreed'. This confused me because I thought it was us at first but then thought she hasn't even taken the fees, so I rang up to be informed by another member of staff that the flat had simply been let to 'a woman who had shown particular interest in the property and signed the application forms there and then. I was never told we could do the application form at the time, if I had then I would not have hesitated to do it. Later when my dad rang the manager told him that the woman was a middle aged lecturer so was a 'gold dust tenant', clearly implying that we were not up to their standard which is just ridiculous! So just a complete lack of communication and proper practice, didn't even have the decency to call me and inform me the flat had been let, I had to chase them. If you're looking to wave a bit of cash under someone's nose and get the propert you want, then just go with martin and co because they clearly jump at the first sniff of money from a gold dust tenant, even after agreeing a deal with other people prior to her viewing. Thanks a lot!

Firstly we were given incorrect information on the pricing of the property and rent and also were sent incorrect documents after already paying out £100 admin fee. We were then ignored for 4 weeks by Helen the estate agent who had taken our money and left us with no other information. The contract we verbally agreed on was then changed to a contract which we could no longer afford. After trying for 2 further weeks to refund and contact the company, we were messed around via phone calls and lied to that our refund has been sent back. Finally, when we got through to a manager after a phone call with Lee who was rude and inconsiderate of the problem. The manager was rude and didn't care about our problem ending the phonecall with a sarcastic "I wish you success in your future career" whilst laughing. Overall, UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, LAZY, INCOMPETENT, MONEY STEALING COMPANY WITH LACK OF COMMUNICATION. Do not recommend.

Not a single good word to say about Martin and Co Huddersfield. Avoid at all costs. I rented a student property last year. Very helpful when you want to rent, after that a complete nightmare. So disorganised, one staff member was even snotty. Firstly they tried to make us move into a flooded house and thought that was okay. We found a new house with them only because we had already paid the deposit and first months rent. We had many problems with them throughout the year, including their attempt to keep our deposit. SERIOUSLY STAY AWAY if only someone would have warned me before so now I just want to warn others.

If you are a Student do NOT let with Martin and Co. Its not just me complaining, This is on Behalf of our house I let with 3 other people, all of whom don't have a single good word to say about Martin and Co Huddersfield. A Friend at Uni also had no heating for over a month as Martin and CO Failed to get back to her numerous Phone calls and Emails. If we pay over 16k a year for a 3 story, 4 Bed narrow town house you Expect a good level of customer Service... Something that was not taken up by the Agents. Further more upon leaving there were a few lightbulbs blown due to the poor electrics of the house.... These were Quoted at £15 one off charge and £5 per Lightbulb to Replace.... Ludacris
