I'm sure the service they provide to a landlord is somewhat different to the complete contempt they show towards students just wanting a decent home to live in whilst at university. I absolutely recognise the majority of other comments on this site from people who actually used the service provided by home leasing. And I think you would too if you or your child were living in a home leasing property. Regards Olly ...

Charged for silly things like blue tac marks that were already there and a crack in a bidet that was never used. The house is old and needs completely revamping, charges for small things that don't work is completely pointless. Just a way for them to make more money.

Appalling and unreasonable. What possible reason could there be to charge a prospective tenant over £200? If they're recouping the cost of 15minutes of consultation and passing over some keys, it should de lower and it should be recouped from the landlord rather than the tenant (they can afford it).

The agent's fee are extortionate and quite frankly ridiculous. We moved into the flat and there was damage to certain areas of the flat e.g. window repairs needed, paint stains on the carpets and leaks etc. We have been quoted +£400 worth of fees. The flat was left spotless and was well kept during our tenancy. I feel that they are adding fees on in order to refurbish the flat for potential new tenants and this cost should not lie with us as the flat was left spotless. I can understand that a certain amount of cleaning may be required but not +£400 worth of cleaning.

Excessive fees, rent was also too high for the quality of property and level of service from this agent. These costs should be more closely regulated and all check outs should be conducted by an independent body to ensure claims and deductions from your deposit are objectively made.

What agent could do to change your mind?
We rented a place via home leasing and they told us, after moving in and when we had given a list of issues, that they were there purely for the landlord and not the tenants. They were extremely unprofessional and and made us feel like criminals even though we are a professional couple with a new born baby and treated the place like our home for three years (despite the damp collapsing walls and a cupboard falling on my head). Any building issues were dealt with directly with the landlord (which makes you wonder what they were there for). We always paid our rent on time but changed our bank details part way through the lease (all notified etc) but they did not update their system and so we received threatening letters to us and our guarantors due to their clerical errors. On leaving we were ignored only to find that they don't inspect properties until you have returned the keys, giving you no chance to rectify any potential issues. They speak to you as though they have already made their mind up that they are going to take some of your deposit back for things they will find wrong. Our property was damp effected and when we complained they said they don't deal with building maintenance - hence the only look out for the landlord comment. We had the property professionally cleaned so that it was in better condition than when we arrived.... lets see if we get our deposit back.
