I felt almost harrassed 1.5 years ago to sign the contract when I was letting my little flat near Putney. The agent called me 3 times in a space of 5 hours to get my signature promising the sooner I sign the sooner the property will be marketed. So I stupidly signed the contract. From then on I've had the following issues: - the property was over 1 week late appearing on their website - brochure 1 week late - viewings 1 week late - promised they would let it for over £200pcm more then the previous agent only to call me 2 weeks after to ask me to reduce the price to only £50 more what it was before and I was now losing money as their fees were 3 times higher then the previous agent. - once they let the property I have to call, email and send a pigeon (LOL) to get an answer - I had to chase more then once to get these sorted: 2nd set of keys for the tenants, signed contracts (from tenants), rent collection dates (current issue - unresolved) - paperwork not updated on the landlords portal - rent collections not set up until chased and then late but they insist on collecting it as well as keeping the deposit - branch manager that does not reply to a complaint letter but gets someone to call me and be defensive with me over the phone - never ever received an apology for anything I highlighted that went wrong - still waiting for a response to an e-mail I sent to their accounts person I have been dealing with in the past to fix the rent collection dates (sent two weeks ago) and another e-mail through their website (10days ago) and a phonecall to their switchboard (1week ago), none of which I had a reply to
A friend of mine who is also letting a property through Foxtons (different branch) is even more upset as they "manage" his property. Same issues: making promises they know they will not be able to deliver, exceptionally bad communication, arrogant attitude, incompetence in managing paperwork, crazy high fees.
I think these guys are trained to behave like this and this is a company widespread issue or strategy if you like. Aggressive start, flash cars and once you get the signature job's done - as far as they are concerned.
Instead of calling them again I decided to write this review as I now have enough evidence of their bad practices and am absolutely sure I will never use them again.
If you want to open a cocktail bar and drive flash cars, then open a cocktail bar and drive flash cars - don't trade as an estate agency.
Also, I used to love "minies" but now I can't stand them. That too is their fault.

I have never felt so ignored, marginalised and used by a company in my life! After some Steller customer service to find me a flat I thought that Foxtons was great, then they cashed my deposit cheque....
From the moment they had hold of my deposit and letting fee, I was pretty much on my own.
The list of issues is almost too big but I will do my best; I was new the the UK and so was confused over a 'standing order' (they are called different things in different countries) I asked them if I had done everything that's was needed with the form I sent Foxtons re:creating a standing order (I didn't know I was supposed to set it up with a bank) . Instead of simply pointing me in the right direction, they ignored me. Then I emailed them when my rent didn't go out, they ignored this too. Then they emailed me to say I was late and at risk of eviction, no reference to the emails I had sent earlier...
Then the maintenance issues began. Curtain rails fell down, vacuum cleaner never worked, door handles began jamming shut, cold water tap stopped working, fan in the bathroom stopped working (which led to mould issues,) washing machine began falling apart. It took a year to get the curtains sorted, a month to get cold water, nothing else was looked at in THREE years!
Not only that, but Foxtons actively encouraged our landlady to increase rent every year we were there. Each time thr lease came up it was a terrible time for us to move due to other commitments but it is one of my few regrets that I didn't just move out after the first year. By the end we were paying about 300 pounds a month more than when we moved it.
Once we decided to move out, the antics continued. THEY CHARGE YOU FOR A REFERENCE! Not even a good one, it is less than 100 words long, sure it is only 20 pounds but the cheek of it! Three years of collection our commission on rent and they still screw us for every pound they can. And you can't move into a new place without a reference so it is definately taking advantage. The fact that it is as low as 20 pounds just shows how petty they are.
Then prospective tenants were brought through by the Foxtons reps. Right away there was no warning, they just started showing up. We had to give each rep individually our mobiles as they used the lack of contact numbers as an excuse for just showing up.
Finally we are now through with them. I am a happy person who does not often hold into things, but every tie I see the damn green F logo I get mad.
STAY AWAY! As a landlady/lord you will be pushed into increasing rent, get angry tenants that move out, and we probably getting fleeced somewhere along the line. As tenants, well I think I have pointed out enough reasons why you don't want to deal with these money suckers.
There is a reason Foxtons has no social media presence.

Loads of discrete things in your contract that cost you loads of money when you leave.
For example, you MUST pay £225 + VAT to have a 2-bedroom flat cleaned at the end of your tenancy - this is taken from your deposit.
If you leave your contract early you have to pay 11% of the rent for the remaining months even if you find someone else to move in who will pay full rent. You also have to pay a £150 termination fee.
If you ever over pay your rent you have to wait over a week for the money to be returned.
The staff pretend to be very friendly and helpful but are driven by sales targets so are, therefore, very manipulative.
I will never be using this company again. Horrendous.

Thought it was a bit odd, as Foxtons tend to crow about their general footfall etc... Turns out that Tim (chubby bald sales chap) was selling his, nearly identical, flat on the next road. He failed to mention this to me.
Eventually sold the flat at well below what it was originally "valued" at. I knew Foxtons had, and still have, a chequered reputation, I should have gone with another agent.
I have moved out of London now so don't have to deal with them. But as a rule, I will never use them or recommend them again. [[EDIT ORIGINAL END]]

The biggest mistake we made when moving to London at short notice was choosing a property to rent from Foxtons. I had no idea how crooked they were & now I know I warn all my friends & family to stay away. To begin with we had to find a place at very short notice that was ready to move in so did not have much time to look around. The agent knew this & took advantage. He got us into a fake bidding war to increase the rent. I know better now but was desperate & naive at the time. He also lied to us about on site parking but was done so sneakily there was no trace we could not complain & by the time we found out it was too late. Had I known the truth we would never have taken it. Their fees are extortionate & they even make you a hefty fee for the inventory abd check out. There are many, many more reasons too long to go into. It was extremely stressful Trying to get the management company to do anything. It boils down to this - stay away! They will do & say anything to get you to sign then screw you once contacted they couldn't give a shit.

Do not mis-sell properties, even if it is by witholding vital information, this made my life hell and you could easily have let it to someone else.
Get your management emplolyees to actually bother to look in the file before insisting they don;t know something and can\'t help you then telling you to do it yourself!

[[EDIT ORIGINAL START]] We were unfortunate enough to not know beforehand of focton's slippery reputation and got sucked right in. To begin with the flat we let was mis-sold to us as "having parking spaces available for rent" - this turned out not to be the case. I also said at the time "I can alway apply for a parking permit if I don't find a space to rent" and the agent remained silent. It was only afterwards I found out that the entire complex of flats had been built on private land with the premise no tenant would ever be allowed a council parking permit and the management company also weren't issuing parking permits! Had I known this I would never have rented it, it made my life hell. When we moved in I asked for the details of the gas and electricity supplier but was told they did not know and to call a very expensive national line for each. The expensive numbers I called were no help. I called Foxtons again and they said they did not know. It was only by chance a letter came for the landlady with and EDF mark on I realised. When I met the precious tenant I was shocked to find he had filled in a home movers pack for them with these details in and they had this file but didn;t bother to even look it up! It was a very stressful time thanks to Foxtons mis-selling and laziness of their lettings management. There are many more trivial matters they were also crap about but then this would never end. Finally STAY AWAY FROM FOXTONS!!! THEY ARE SNEAKY LAZY BASTARDS!!! [[EDIT ORIGINAL END]]

The experience wasn't bad at first. They found me the perfect property, and fortunately my landlord chose to manage the property himself. I had minimal contact with Foxtons until I gave notice that I was leaving. That's when viewings began.
It was rare that they ever gave appropriate notice to conduct viewings. Typically they'd ring only a few hours ahead. I informed them I wished to be present during all viewings. Nevertheless, they conducted them without notice while I was out as I noticed curtains drawn and doors opened/closed upon returning. Once I instructed them I wouldn't be available for a viewing as I would be out. I was running late for my appointment and indeed just out of the shower when I heard someone attempting to enter. They couldn't enter as the key was inside the keyhole from the inside, and I answered the door still wet and wearing a robe. In spite of that the agent had the audacity to insist upon a quick viewing. The customer was horrified and told him we should go. He scolded me and told me "he'd deal with me later".
It doesn't get much worse than that. Oh, actually it does. They informed the landlord I was not permitting viewings when they gave the sufficient advance notice. Fortunately the landlord knew better.

She was also extremely personable and enthusiastic and made the viewings a pleasure rather than a chore. When we went to view the properties, he took us to 3, 1 in BARNES and 2 in PUTNEY. Not only were the properties not in the right areas, they were also unfurnished and £100pw over our budget. It was an absolute waste of our time. I will not be dealing with them again.

Tim Smith from Foxtons Putney was completely focused on selling our apartment and we have now completed the sale. Tim remained upbeat and positive when we were in despair about the market. He was creative in finding solutions to problems and has been remarkably patient and understanding. I would probably have never actually selected Foxtons from the huge range of estate agents in Putney if it were not for this agent. He remained in contact with me for the initial 12 months that the flat was on the market with another agency, during which time the other agent singularly failed to sell the property. Foxtons was regularly in touch reminding me me that Foxtons could sell it. He was always well informed about the state of the property market and always had time to respond to my questions. In spite of my concerns about Foxton's higher commission Tim was able to convince me, and my husband (a generally unswayable rationalist) that Foxtons were the right choice for a difficult market. He was right. After we switched to Foxtons, Tim was always in touch and always looking for ways around the difficulties we faced. In the past week alone there was a remarkable moment when Tim single-handedly found a solution that our solicitor, our buyer's solicitor and the managing agent were not able to see. He created a way forward which resulted in the final exchange on our flat within 12 hours! Bravo Foxtons!

I am so glad that I did not rent with Foxtons. Having read some of the horror stroies on here, it seems I made the right decision. Once I had registered with Foxtons they would not leave me alone, they continually called me about flats which were nothing like what I had asked for, completely out of my price range and would often lie to get me into the office. Even after I informed them that I had put a deposit on another property they continued to call me.
I would not even consider registering with this agency again and strongly advise you to avoid them aswel.
