They refused us to view a property, saying 'it is not for you'. The rent was 1625 pcm and we said we have a similar value of property which will rent out and have had a total annual income around 50K. They just said it is not for you, and you cannot afford. Who has decided and with which maths we have no idea. A very humiliating experience with a snobbish attitude There is no appointment for you was their last sentence. I hope there would be no place for such agents.

The worst property management company I have ever used. Unresponsive until you complain, cavalier in sending workmen to fix minor issues, no follow up to check issues resolved even with an additional 10% fee for works over £350. Unresponsive to my tenants who ended up dealing with me directly. Most works carried out had to be revised - who ever heard of a new door handle being fitted as a temporary fix which would need to be replaced within a year? After I complained the time taken to process and pass on rent went from a 56 day time lag (bad enough) to a 9/10 to e en 14 day time lag with no explanations granted.

Response from agents re complaints arrogant at best - truly better off managing yourself and thanks to open rent that’s what we are doing. 47 enquiries and 20 viewings scheduled in a week with a rent rise. With Dexter’s we had maybe six viewings and had to drop the rent twice.

I am a current tenant in a property which the landlord is advertising through Dexters. Today I received a call from my landlord at 4pm asking if the agent could enter the house for a viewing. He agreed and said that he'd arrange it for tomorrow.
Five minutes later, an agent from Dexters in Hackney knocked on my door. I said that we had been given no notice about a viewing. He said that the landlord had said he'd given notice, and that he had someone who had 'travelled all the way across London' to see the property. I said that he wasn't permitted to enter the property as we haven't received notice, and to give 24 hours notice. He was extremely pushy and intimidating, repeating that I should give him access to the property because the 'girl had travelled all the way across London for the viewing' and that he would have to disappoint her. He said I was being unreasonable. This went on for several minutes of him not taking 'no' for an answer, despite me iterating that it's my legal rights. Eventually I closed the door.
I immediately called my landlord to alert him that the agent from Dexters had turned up; my landlord said he had explicitly not given the agent permission and that he had insisted on coming.
Then the agent knocked on the door again, this time with the woman who wanted to view the property! He again pushed and insisted on being let in. At this point I said 'the landlord did not grant you permission, he's on the phone now - you can talk to him' and handed over my phone. The agent at this point completely backtracked on the phone to my landlord, saying 'I just came around to collect some details' - it was clear he had lied to me about my landlord giving permission. I reiterated our tenants' rights under the Housing Act, and closed the door.
It was a horrible experience which left me feeling shaken. I am a young female in the house alone, and the Dexters' representative explicitly lied, intimidated, and wouldn't take 'no' for an answer despite it being my legal right as a tenant to have 24 hours' notice for a viewing.
It's awful behaviour and I've raised a formal complaint. It's no wonder that Dexters has such a poor reputation.

I lived in a shared accommodation managed by Dexters.
I found a new tenant to take over my room and moved out of the property end of July 2017. The new tenant provided all the relevant documentation straight away and made the deposit to Dexters in mid September (there were a few offline agreements between myself and the new tenant in regards to the deposit - landlord was happy with condition of property after I moved out).
I have been asking for Dexters to return my deposit since. They tell me that they cannot return my deposit until the new contract is signed. It has taken Dexters over a month to simply complete the process of creating and completing a contract. Even when all the documentation and funds were made available.
I desparately need the funds but am being told that I will need to wait. Very slow service and no initiative to complete the job at hand - even when they charge a ridiculous £240 administration and reference fee.
They have made the whole process stressful. I've contacted TDS and they suggested that I contact the citizens advice bureau.
Avoid Dexters where possible...

The Estate agent first and foremost asked my name, I informed him I had never heard of Dexters after 17 years of renting in London. He asked my second name, went silent and came back saying "you clearly do know Dexters, you registered with us two years ago" then continued to ask "what do you do"
Now, and I consider myself somewhat successful earning a very decent salary in the high high bracket, (on contract) and other freelance clients on the side I was made to feel like I was renting a property for the first time and informed I needed to provide a list of Information. (This is all before a viewing)
Then as the conversation or should I say "interrogation" progressed I was informed that the landlord is looking for someone to make it "their home" (I've never thought of moving into a flat to make it anything less) as he lives abroad with a small child (I believe he said) and looking for someone for a 24 month contract. Never in my whole adult life have I ever heard a landlord ask for a 24 month contract. Call it greed, call it fear, call it laziness on that agents part, who knows?? No doubt a tactic as he didn't feel I was the right candidate (on a phone call) :-/
I would have been more than happy to rent for a lengthy period as I'm not going anywhere and I've been in the building I'm in back and forth for 5 years, but with barriers thrown up instantly, it makes you wonder who these "Landlords" allow to manage their property?
When you have a 36 year old, good earner, doesn't need to leave their already rented property, no children, no pets, can afford the property alone, as a pontential tenant! It's leaves me wondering "who is a good tenant to Dexters?" If only we could deal with our landlords directly like I do now and have a great relationship with it would make renting in London much easier.
Sadly a phone call with Dexters Estate Agent is enough to turn anyone off and if they are not interested in my money, it will go to a more deserving "home".

Davey Stone are an exception to the rule when it comes to Estate Agents. They have been in the area longer than I have (20 years) and their knowledge of both the Lettings and the Sales Markets for our area is unrivaled. I have bought property and Let property through Davey Stone and continue to use their services because I trust them. I have spread the word amongst my friends and neighbours - not one of them have been disappointed. Led by Simon Stone, the Staff are insightful, helpful, genuine, sincere and friendly - it is hard to single one person out as they are all so professional. However my special thanks go out to Hannah, Michael, John and Kirsty who have all been exceptional. I doubt you will find a better Team in the whole of London that can beat them.

However once Hannah came on board, she was always at the end of the phone or would return calls. Hannah was very knowlegable, extremely efficient and nothing was ever too much trouble. In fact if it wasn't for her I would have instructed another company.

MIchael was a total pleasure to deal with.
When my first rental fell through (through no fault of his), Michael went out of his way to get me the first viewing of another, equally lovely, property which I snapped up and am now happily living in.
Michael was always on the end of the phone to answer my questions, was infinitely obliging with my requests, and was good company to boot. He didn't give me the usual estate agent bluster, didn't try to push me into a decision and instead gave me time and headspace to make a decision.
Michael turned what is usually a grim process into a pleasure. Highly recommended.
