I wish I could put 0 stars. Most inefficient, inconsistent, s* unreliable, useless, lazy estate agent*. They have no idea about how to rent a house and the only thing they were good at was chasing us every month to ask for money when we had already paid the whole year rent upfront. They were not able to do a proper check in as the person entitled to do it was in a rush so he couldn't stay too long. It took them (Dexters plus Thames View, the other brilliant company they work with) more than 20 days to send the signed contract back to us as they were always SOOO BUSY! We managed to get the contract thanks to the emails and calls we made for at least 4 times a day for 20 days. Every time we called and asked to speak to Jessica, Bianca and so on the answers were the followings:
1) they are on lunch break (favourite answer) 2) they are not working here anymore 3) they are on a telephone call 4)they are away from their desk 5) they have already left the office * Also, everyone tells you different things so you never know who you should listen to. STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

Comments on Agent Fees
They do not seem to have a structure when it comes to fees. Do not assume that just because you've signed a paper or given your card details, that any fees or deposites will be taken. They don't. Not to be trusted.

I met all their requirements, but managed to get screwed over by them somehow allowing a second person to get referenced at the same time as me. Absolutely disgraceful, disgusting behaviour - and just plain dodgy and sly. Showed their true colours. I will never recommend Dexters to anyone, especially the Chiswick High Road Office. If anything I will only continue to warn people.

If I could give Dexters minus stars I would. The team, specifically Alex Cook, Kamil, Jonathan Hill are obnoxious, aggressive and unprofessional. We rented a house from Dexters in 2012 when we were due to have newborn twins. At the end of our rental year we moved out as agreed. 7 weeks before that, Dexters started viewings on the house. There was absolutely no consideration about our needs and the fact that we were still living in the house with babies. They booked in viewings as and when they felt like it, expecting us to wake sleeping babies so the viewers could see around their rooms. When we asked for only one block of viewings a day, we received responses like (and this exactly what they wrote in emails regardless of whether it is convenient to you we will be viewing the property from Kamil or Alex Cooke We are within our rights to take your deposit if you don't agree to the viewings we suggest Alex Cooke repeatedly yelled down the phone at my husband and I and when we requested an ARLA complain form, he did not send one as he is Dexters ARLA representative!!! These people are truly unprofessional and spout the law without knowing anything about it. DO NOT USE.

This review goes for all Dexters to be honest, but mainly the chiswick branch. I find that with the likes of Dexters, Foxtons, Haart and so on the running theme is dishonesty and a total lack of people skills. It's as if they literally discard their humanity while at work and choose to act like savages. I often found they would take me to places above my price range, and I see this as a tactic to make you fall in love with somewhere you can't afford and get you to spend a bit more, without them caring that it will mean you'll have to live on Green eggs and ham as a result. They lied a lot, even about little things which was the most annoying e.g. what time they had to be at a property, claiming the property was far away from the office, so you must show up in order to not waste their time when in reality it's a 10min drive away. I was lied to and told the windows at the property I would live in would be double glaze, only for me to get there and it isn't. They are all smiles and friendship when they are trying to get you to bid but once the paper work begins they become rude, pushy and extremely hostile, all the while threatening you with claims to put the place back on the market if you don't hurry up. It is definitely obvious that they don't care about YOU as a person, just their commission. I tried looking with Dexters again once my tenancy was up, but I was already getting the same tell tale signs of bad behaviour, so I went with a lovely agency called Sargeants instead and found a lovely apartme t. Despite what I think and my own experiences, Dexters and Foxtons are notorious for their bad behaviour, and I will never use them again. I have already warned everyone I know to steer clear!

You are officially hopeless. I won't mention how many times you told us that you'll sell our house in a weekend, and later failed miserably. I won't mention how much did you brag that you're the only agency which can generate tons of viewings and then managed to deliver only 1 viewing in two weeks which was cancelled without warning. I would only like to say one thing: despite the fact that we have requested that shoes must never be worn in the house, every single of your agents who did viewings without us being present, never bothered to take them off, and apparently, instructed prospective buyers accordingly. Dear Dexters - you are beyond redemption. If the simple words "shoes off" just can't get through, I believe the hope is truly and completely lost.

Oh how I wish I read comments in this forum before dealing with Dexters! I hope these comments would be helpful to someone in the future, but clearly my experience is quite in line with other tenants' comments on Dexters Chiswick / Tom specifically.
We have let a flat via Dexters Chiswick last year, and the entire experience of dealing with Tom Mclarnon was utterly stressful, unlike the several times we let properties in the past with other agents. Throughout the process we felt as we were being misled and had significant difficulty agreeing the simplest terms.
If you can - do not deal with Tom and this will save you a lot of (unnecessary) stress.
If you have to deal with him - check everything at least twice, if you agree anything on the phone/during the viewing, get it immediately in writing via emails afterwards. And when you negotiate a tenancy agreement - make sure you also triple check it, as in our case the document changed from one version to the next, without Tom bothering to inform us!!!
Key problems in dealing with Tom: - not honest - despite us stating that we want a furnished property, he pushed for letting the property unfurnished! Even after we agreed to have certain pieces of furniture left in the flat (i.e. specifically the pieces we indicated during TWO viewings), the proposed drafting of the tenancy agreement presented to us as "final for signing" did not specify this. Only after I requested explicit wording in the agreement (i.e. "for the avoidance of doubt...") to indicate that the furniture to be made available to us is what we saw, did it transpire that Tom (presumably) misled the landlord, who thought the cheapest set from Ikea would do instead! - withheld information between us and the landlord only to push the deal through, despite some big gaps in expectations (price, duration, furniture). - not professional manner of dealing with customers (please do send him for basic etiquette and ETHICS training!) I am quite sure he was a major, and quite frankly - an unnecessary - obstacle to information flow between us and the landlord, to get terms quickly agreed
Overall - stay away if you can!

From the beginning to end absolutely terrible. The lease contract's standard clauses cannot be changed even the landlord and the tenant agree. I was not aware of this at the time when I put the deposit time as I would have then asked for the contract and my offer would be subject to the changes being accepted. At the end landlord had to get additional insurance as Dexters Legal refused to make any changes to the contract. So who cares whether it is tenant or landlord? Deep cleaning was booked last minute (the day before the moving in date) and done poorly. The agreed repairs were not done and of course the agent did not bother to tell us as we would have then delayed the moving in. The manager lied by saying that they also represent the tenants' rights and interests. An absolute lie, considering that they look after the landlord's best interests. Check out the statement on the Property Ombudsman's website in the UK. At the end because everything was terrible and they pushed the landlord to handover the management to themselves, i.e. "they need to manage it". The lady at the management part of the company was extremely aggressive with my husband until the Chiswick manager pointed out to her that in fact the landlord was in breach of the contract and they need to speed up on finishing the repairs, which were supposed to be done before the moving in date. It took some time as you can imagine. We asked for money back and the response was that at the end we rented the flat, so a service (however terrible) was performed.

Tom, was proffesional, warm and had my best interest at heart both in terms of getting the right sort of contract and paying no more than i should. I saw two places and i wanted both, I exchanged contracts and moved in, within a couple of weeks.
I cant thank him enough.

They requested and outrageous amount of personal information, I am sure the data commissioner were to look into this it would be a straight case of invasion of privacy.
Also when we were negotiating we requested some furniture out, the person that showed to us said yes and now is "we never mentioned".
Stay away, far away from Dexters or Townends, same sub-standard different suit.

We approched Dexters for rental properties in Chiswick, they were ever so kind to show us a few, we saw one we liked. After being told by the agent that we could have this flat unfurnished, we put down a holding deposit that same day.
The agent says not a problem, so we fill out all the paper-work, send our bank details, employment- and landlord references etc.. all stressful stuff and time consuming. We signed the 36 months contract & Tenancy agreement and sent it over. The contract didn't mention that the flat was to be let unfurnished, so we made sure to add this condition.
A couple of days later, the agent comes back saying the landlandy wants to keep 2 sofa's inside the flat. They refused to put in writing that we would not be liable to pay for any damage that may occur to the sofas. We decided to make a compromise and agreed to keep them. The agent then contacts us again; with the audacity to ask if we (the prospective tenants), in addition to look after the sofas for the duration of the tenancy, could to take the beds & all other furniture from this 2nd-/1st floor flat to the rubbish dump at own expense!!!
It's clear that the flat was never going to be let unfurnished, yet Dexters proceeded with our application and was more than happy to collect a holding deposit from us on the spot. A great waste of our time, we do not recommend any dealings with this branch.
