Rude and unprofessional bunch of scoundrels. They will do anything to overcharge you and deduct as much as possible from your deposit (not to mention the unexplainable contract and renewal fees). Very poorly maintained properties on the verge of not meeting minimum living standards. Don't even think about booking a viewing with them either as you'll probably be stood up. Avoid TJ, they're greedy and dishonest....

The accommodation was unsafe, filthy, had bare wires hanging from walls. They never responded to any complaints ie no hot water or heating. Would not return calls or emails. They are still holding on to 7 tenants deposits with no communication why. They do not allow you to return to the property when they are inspecting it after the tenancy agreement ends. I rented my current flat from them in May \'13. From start (viewing the property) to finish (signing the contract) they were excellent; I experienced no pressure, complications or stress. The whole move went smoothly. There has been a few very minor problems in the property and they have dealt with these very quickly. I have no reservations about recommending them to tenants in Brighton/ Hove....

I rented an apartment from Tanat-Jones for 3.5 years, and only have positive things to say about them. They were always so friendly, helpful and very prompt to sort out any problems that arose with the apartment, but unobtrusive the rest of the time - exactly the balance you want from a lettings agency. We fell in love a with flat and eagerly put down our holding deposit, but found out later that there was no plumbing for a washing machine. I was really worried, having heard horror stories before, that our holding deposit would be lost. After over a month of ending the let on the property, I contacted the agency to see why I had heard nothing about the return of my deposit. They then sent me an email to say that there was outstanding debt of £1,050 and that there would be no return of the deposit until this had been paid. The Brighton student housing market is filled with dodgy landlords and agents looking to make a quick buck off students. 3 days before I was due to move in the Landlady decided not to rent leaving me high and dry ! During those few days Tanat-Jones were so helpful with me in trying to resolve the issue and making numerous contacts with t he Landlady who was being very elusive and not helpfull. What agent could do to change your mind?
I will never recommend the agent to my friends or family, because the agent are unprofessional, and unacknowledged for the housing agreement etc.. The only professional skill they know is, how to use the payment machine to get the money from the tenants.

These people did everything possible to avoid my requests for standard repairs. I had a six month tenancy and by the time I had left, they still had not fixed the boiler. It took 2 months to get my deposit back and I had to spend lots of time complaining. I really don't understand how they can get away with it. Worst agents I have ever used....

Customer service and organisation are two words that Tanat Jones do NOT know the meaning of. Before they get your money they are as nice a pie - once paid its obvious that you dont matter at all to them!! Had to ask several times for the most simple of tasks to be actioned.... Some never were no matter how many requests made. Poor communication and lack of respect for tennents -- I would avoid using them at all costs....

Trying to find a tenancy in a popular area can be very difficult and stressful. I registered with at least half a dozen estate agents, most of whom made no contact at all, but Tanat Jones staff were incredibly professional. Whilst completing my degree (also in Brighton) I rented with a number of other agents who's attitude and approach to any maintained was horrendous at best. We saw a house with this agency and agreed that we would put a deposit down. Despite promising to call us as soon as he got back to the office, the agent didn't bother and then took a deposit from someone else. The actions of this agent have caused us substantial distress, disappointment and inconvenience. David has responded by apologising and offering to make amends. The member of staff at fault has been spoken to and has admitted to the mistake which it seems was related to inexperience. We are satisfied that our complaint has been appropriately and adequately dealt with.....

I found Tanat's to be a pleasant small business, given some of the terrible agents I have dealt with in Brighton, Tanat's have been one of the better. Everyones experience hinges on there specific point of contact and pleasingly, Dan of the Brighton office was a nice guy to deal with. They were very helpful to us in both finding the property and ensuring we could move in as soon as possible, irrespective of the time of year. Agent Fees

I write to advise that our agency fee for tenants is an all-inclusive
£160 plus VAT per person.

This includes full referencing including credit checks with or without a
guarantor (no additional charge for guarantor), production of ARLA &
Brighton & Hove City Council approved tenancy agreement, check in &
check out and deposit protection through the TDS.

A renewal fee of £35 plus VAT (total, not per person) is charged for
either a 6 or 12 month agreement -- i.e. we do not charge more for a
longer contract.

Deposit-wise -- we charge 5 weeks rent for an unfurnished property and 6
for a furnished. On the rare occasion we accept pets, a 6 week deposit
is also charged.
