Something is wrong with the Livingston office. They usurp dictatorial power of who gets to see the properties, can place an offer and what information they then communicate to the owners. For the three weeks I had to deal with them, I observed that they pressured me to place an offer faster than I intended by claiming somebody made one already. When I wanted second viewing the leading agent Lauren said she's unavailable, so I visited owners myself to learn that they rejected the offer, which means Lauren was lying. In the meantime, Remax sent me a panicking email to stop me from speaking to the owners directly. After that it only went worse: Remax questioned my ability to pay, made me to send decision in principle and bank statements attesting my savings, a procedure unheard of amongst British property buyers I was advised by. Even my bank and solicitor was in awe of what Remax was assuming - that I cannot afford to buy it, so I shouldn't be taken under consideration. Then, after three days of waiting for confirmation of passing my offer to the owners, on Friday 5pm, Remax told me to get a solicitor who will make an offer on my behalf on Monday morning. So, what were they doing during those three days? I still managed to find a solicitor despite the profession being off on weekends. At the end my assumption is that a) Remax agents do not understand that the property will be somebody's home, where this person will need live for years taking care of the building and garden. They treat it as a fast track sales of sock or boxes, without personalised care or understanding. b) I am pretty sure that a lot of racism and working class lack of education played a role: they acted as if they've assumed that a foreign single woman is unable to rise capital (which is usually the opposite). Conclusion: my offer was rejected. I will now never contact any Remax office ever again.
