I was shown around flat 2 of 172 Washway Road on or around Friday 6th June 2014. I decided later that day that I would rent the property and therefore paid the £360 application fee that evening, with the view to move into the property from Preston on Friday 13th June.
Monday 9th June I received application forms and a contract via email which I sent back on Tuesday 10th June. In the email it was confirmed my move date was 13th June.
Thursday 12th June I emailed the office to again confirm my moving day was the 13th, it was confirmed and booked in for 1pm.
It should be noted that I had been packing all my belongings throughout the week and packed up my car the night of the 12th June.
At 12.30pm Friday 13th June, I received a call from Bridgfords (I was already on my way to move in). I was informed that they HADN'T EVEN GOT PERMISSION from the landlords for me to move in, as they were on holiday in Ireland. I was told I would not be able to move in that day and it would most likely be Monday (when I was due to start my new job in Manchester).
At 9.30am Monday morning I received a call from Bridgfords again. This time I was told the property had been LET TO SOMEONE ELSE by the landlord and that Bridgfords weren't told.
As apologetic as they were, it still doesn't make up for the fact they were happy to let me think I could move in to a property when they hadn't even got permission for me to do so. The application fee has since been refunded. I recommend avoiding them like the plague.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Having done a small amount of research, ‚£360 application fee is an extortionate amount, even in the estate agent world.

Very disappointing experience with Sale branch in selling my home. They were disorganised - cancelling their own viewings last minute because they were short-staffed, not providing feedback on viewings and not letting me know when potential viewers had cancelled appointments. They were not proactive in ...
