Not quite sure where to start with this review, as I have never felt the need to write a bad review.
As a letting agent myself, I have never had the displeasure of dealing with such a rude and unpleasant agent.
I was in a tenancy with a friend, when my circumstances changed, I gave the landlord over 8 weeks notice out of courtesy, as well as my housemate, in order for her to find someone else to move in with her. I also informed Lewis Phipps with 6 weeks written notice that I would be vacating and the landlord was in agreement.
My Housemate did find a friend to move in with her when I vacated, and Mr Phipps was informed of this. To all my emails I sent, his response was a either a one line response to state I would not be released from the tenancy until a new tenancy had started or its contradicted his previous email sent. Legally this is total rubbish, as the tenancy we were then in was on a periodic (month by month) and therefore, should one tenant wish to end the tenancy this can be enforced by just one tenant handing in notice to end the tenancy. When I did call to speak to him he was rude, abrupt and when asked questions he could not answer, which resulted in the phone being put down on me.
As I knew both the tenants that would be carrying on a Tenancy at the property, I did not argue the fact, as I knew they would work with me. I arranged for the landlord to inspect the property and collect my keys 4 days before I was due to vacate as I had already moved out. The landlord was very pleased with the way we had kept the property, and confirmed he would not want to retain any of my deposit.
The following day when the new Tenancy for the new tenants was due to start I was informed he was awaiting the references back for the new tenant and then he would return my deposit. As an agent myself I know that all references would need to be verified before a new tenancy to start, bearing in mind he had 6 weeks to arrange for this to be done. The following day I called to see if references were back, to which I was then told he would need a signed agreement before releasing my deposit. The new tenant was now living in the property, and the agent had not yet sent out a tenancy agreement. Therefore no signed agreement and no money paid. When the tenant tried to call no one in the office could take payment from her as Lewis was not in the office. I decided to call my landlord and he would chase for me. I had a call from both landlord and Lewis Phipps to say it would be sorted by the end of the week. This was a Wednesday. I called on the Friday and Lewis Phipps asked for my account details to return the deposit to, which I gave to him, and was told it would be a couple of days. Monday afternoon I checked my account and no funds had been received. I called Lewis and was told he still did not have a signed agreement. I spoke to both the tenants and they stated they had not received a Tenancy agreement to sign till the Saturday ( 5 days after the start of the tenancy ). Finally they sent back the signed agreement to Lewis Phipps on Wednesday. Which I followed up with him, to be told it would need to passed to his accounts although when asked how it would be paid, he said he didn't know! I eventually got my deposit back after chasing daily.
As an agent myself I would strongly advise any prospective landlords or tenants to avoid this agency, as they are unprofessional, misleading and extremely rude.

Yes
As you will know if you are a lettig agent all deposits are held in a deposit scheme, which will either be done by the landlord or the agent. In this instance the deposit was held via the landlord in DPS and you were not the lead tenant.
No matter how mant times you call you should know as a letting agent we are not able to refund money we dont hold
