This guy is a compulsive liar. Not passing on rent and blaming the tenant, when I had evidence that the tenant had paid throughout their tenancy in a punctual manner. I informed Nick, by phone message, that I was terminating our arrangement as I could not afford to take the risk on him any longer and I asked the tenant to pay me directly. After a month of trying I managed to get some limited response from Nick , with him agreeing to return my documents. Out of the blue, Harmsworth turned up at my home address, with the documents and a covering letter saying that he was sorry and he would pay me my outstanding rent within 2 working days, with the deposit returning within 3 weeks. I thought at least he had shown some front, and therefore id go easy on him. Yet a week later I still don't have the money!!! And I cant get hold of him, has he got financial trouble or has he pocketed everyone's money because I know several people are owed several months worth of rent. All I want is some honesty. So now, as promised to Nick, I plan to do everything possible to expose this disgusting practice. I have today made a statement to Action Fraud and I plan to claim my money through the small claims court. I am going to contact trading standards tomorrow and contact every single watchdog that is interested in this type of fraud and I will not stop until I see some kind of justice or resolution. Or of course, Nick could pay me the money he owes me, which is easier? Disgruntled landlords please join me.

I would be interested to know how you get one as I've tried money claims online and getting a judgement out on him, but so far he hasn't paid, and its costly to pursue legal matters. Is the small claims court the best way forward? Its all so stressful and time consuming.

If you have a look online its got all the details. Just search for 'small claims' and its got it all on there. The cost varies depending on how far you take it. I think Nick is massively in debt so all the money they have taken has just been swallowed. I'm pretty sure they haven't used the DPS, which is illegal so ring up Action Fraud and report him, that's what I have done. I think you have done the right thing in holding onto the rent, because when the landlord comes round you can pay them, if you pay harmsworth it will disappear into a black hole. I went to see my tenant and sorted it so hopefully yours comes round soon. I have written to the Portsmouth North MP, Trading Standards, The News and various watchdogs so suggest everyone does the same. Nick is such a devious coward there's no way i'm letting him get away with it.

Hi I went to the council recently and they are more than aware of nicks 'issues' all other agents seem to no to!!! None of these people thought he was still trading as he went out of business on October!!! I to am with holding rent (advice was given to do this!) hoping our landlord contacts us so we can pay!! We actually have some serious safety issues in our house and no one to help us fix them!! Or get us a gas safety certificate (which is illegal!!) as for the deposit the council said whether he put it into the account or not, the landlord HAS to Honour it!! If they don't you can take them to court and get up to 6 times the amount back!..... Of course you have to find the man first!!! Council said
To me if you can't get deposit back just don't pay last months rent!!!!
Or nick (and I have no doubt what so ever he is reading these posts!!!) come and face everyone be honest for a change and stop screwing everyone over!!!!

Hi, interested to know how much it costs to go to the small courts in order to get the deposit back as my desposit doesnt appear to be in the DPS Scheme?! I have withheld my rent in hope the Landlord comes to my address to speak about this as I hold no information in regards to the landlord.
Only in December did Nick send me a letter changing the rent bank details which now seems a bit worrying.

Good call, the trading standards officer that I spoke to managed to contact Nick Harmsworth. Nick told him he would contact me but unsurprisingly I did not hear from him. I have written to my MP and also The News. I suggest everyone does this as I am not sure if anyone saw it but another dodgy letting agency has gone bust recently leaving lots of people out of pocket. Unlike Harmsworth, the company in question at least had the guts to admit they had gone out of business instead of creeping a ...

This is completely untrue - you gave me permission to sort the carpets that were unsafe for a baby after you sent round a firm that only made the situation worse. At no time have you agreed for me to address the leak and reduce the rent as you advised the landlord would not cover this as he only had the work done last year. THis clearly didn't happen as the leak got worse over the 12 months I've lived there. My payments did change, thank goodness, and this was due to my pay day changing but al ...

They could have communicated with me that would have been a start. I could have been given a statement of what rent had been paid for my property. I could have been given copies of the photos they took. I am still waiting. This is four or five months down the line. My pleas for information fell on deaf ears.
