Chancellors are an estate agent that ripped me off and provided absolutely appalling service. They talk the talk (especially Claire), however they do not walk the walk. Initial conversations with them stated the market was extremely buoyant and they would find tenant/s soon and they had a backlog of people looking for a 2 bed. When Chancellors initially reviewed the property and reports showed the house was in very good order and they reaffirmed, they would rent it no problem and fast. Firstly they found a tenant that only wanted the property for 6 months, which I didn't want as it would mean having to pay the agent finding fees after 6 months. This wasted unnecessary time meaning the property was vacant and I lost money. Then they found another tenant however their work visa was pending. It was agreed Chancellors would keep marketing the property but it took over 3 weeks for the tenants visa to come through... I was made aware of this, but had to chase them to see if the visa had come through after the 3 weeks. They told me they had received the VISA but, by this time I had lost confidence in them as I had to do the chasing, and it was evident they had not shown anyone around in the 3 weeks to have as a back up.
In summary, I feel I was given no other tenant options - I had experienced two un ideal tenants which caused the property to be empty in an apparently very buoyant market. The communication was very bad, for example Claire had not contacted HQ about the waiting for the VISA, and head office had issued me with a contract to sign for this tenant... they clearly had not spoken to each other. I lost confidence in their service, so decided to abort. Another example of their shoddy service was I asked them why they had failed to put a To Let board outside my house whilst it was being marketed and her response "Because you didn't ask for one". This sums up their service.
I aborted with Chancellors, and recruited another agent who 1 week later, proposed 3 different tenants, and a week after that, my property was rented. Absolutely no hassle, a caring and professional service (Church Robinson).
Chancellors tried to take me to court for backing out of the contract. They have treated me awfully and I will never ever use this company again. I work very hard to make a living, and I hate the fact that companies can get away with being so bad.
