Overall Tenant Network were a poor agency due to the way they handled a number of situations.
Firstly, after signing up to Tenant Network, I received the standing order form for the rent and took it to my bank to set this up, who then informed me that the bank details on the form did not match up with Tenant Network's details. When I went in to talk to the staff at tenant network, I was dealt with a very patronising member of staff called 'Andrew'. When I told him the situation he responded with "OK let's cut the bullshit, we've been dealing with Nationwide for a very long time and we've never had any trouble." Then I showed him the form and he realised that the details were in fact incorrect and he soon changed his attitude. I don't expect to pay £120 to be treated this way.
Secondly, due to several issues we found with the house, we called in the council to analyse the property, who then reported to us that the flat we were living in did not adhere to housing regulations and was baffled as to why the property was rented to us in the first place. This meant that a lot of work had to be done to the house to fix the issues so that we could actually go on living in it. The council were also unaware that the house we were living in was actually separated in to two flats, yet the house was declared as one property. This is illegal.
Thirdly, due to the flat being part of a renovated house, the boiler that was linked to our property was placed in the downstairs flat, meaning that we had no access to it. When it came to paying the bills, Tenant Network decided that it would be more practical for us all to share the bills with the downstairs flat despite the fact there was an extra person living there, there were more rooms and they had the luxury of being able to choose when to turn the boiler on and off.
Overall, my example is probably not the worst case scenario and there are people who have a lot worse to deal with. However, I think it is important to highlight the amount of money we shell out to these agencies and we should be entitled to a good service in return. The only saving grace of my experience with Tenant Network is Michelle Leggett, who did her best to fix certain situations and kept in contact through out my time in the property.
