We rented a property through Jackson Stops, Sevenoaks Branch. We were moving back from the US. My husband had a quick view and warned Jackson Stops that the place was not in good order, although he thought the property was a nice one if all damages and repairs were made. Our rent, including the maintenance of the garden and swimming pool is GBP3,650 a month. Jackson Stops demanded that we paid the rent in advance. We had already paid the deposit for two months but they wanted us the pay the rent even before we could move in. I told them that we would like to look at the property first before we moved in, as it was in bad condition. Once we got to England, we straight away went to look at the property. At that time, we thought it was in acceptable condition but the landlord was there still working on things, so we paid the rent. However, once we got the keys and went to do the "Inventory list" and "Check In Condition" we discovered a lot of things wrong with it. The garage was full of landlords things. The step to the garage was not secured properly, there was damage to the fridge/freezer they were providing (large cracks in the freezer compartment), no light to garage or the back garden. Lights were not working in the house, Wire hanging off the wall to garage. Pond with stagnant water, which doesn't operate. Cut cables with the back yard. Smell of oil (oil central heating) from boiler. Jackson Stops however, refuse to acknowledge that the property wasn't ready and will not get involve in the matter. Despite numerous emails and one phone call, they will not get back to us. They are only about making the money and having a good relationship with landlord for future business. They do not care about the tenants. They also told me initially that the contract is for a year with an option of breaking it in 6 months with a two month notice period. However, when it came to signing the contract, it is now 8 months with a two month notice period. I will never deal with the Sevenoaks Branch again!!!
