I was given a house to live in for my first year of university by the uni themselves who used Roman City as the agency. The house we were given was lovely, but when first viewing the house, the lady from Roman City who showed us around was incredibly rude - first bad impression.
Throughout my year living in the house, Roman City were ridiculously hard to get hold of, and even worse when trying to receive help from them. For example our shower completely broke, yet we had to get many other people involved including staff from the University as they were reluctant to come out and fix it.
Roman City also had the completely wrong number for me, despite the fact that I rang them to correct it at least twice.
The main problem I have encountered with them however was the deposit refund procedure. Roman City will not release a deposit until they receive proof of a final bill payment. This seemed odd to me as this does not happen with a normal rental and the name on the bills are linked to the tenants, therefore do not directly effect the agency in any way. In my opinion, it's just another way to keep hold of students money for as long as they can. Once this had been done, it took them a further 2 weeks to even think about releasing the deposit. They told me it had been released, but actually didn't release it until a week later. They also told me the money would be received my direct debit to my bank account, it was actually sent in a cheque form. Normally I would be fine with this, however they sent it to my Mum's address, a house that I don't live in anymore and am hours away from. When asked why it had taken so long, they made up some waffle about being a busy time of year.
It took me 2 months to get my deposit back, legally it is supposed to be within 14 days.
I would never even think about using this letting agency again and would recommend others not to use it either.
