I have just moved out of a property let by Burchell Edwards and feel the need to warn others of the issues we have faced in dealing with this agency.
1. Firstly we have just found out that the amount of our deposit placed in the Deposit Protection Scheme was incorrect. We have a receipt showing we paid £100 than B.E. put into the DPS yet they somehow claim that it is us mistaken. When looking at their financial records a mysterious "tenancy fee" has appeared, conveniently masking any extra deposit we may have paid. What a bunch of crooks.
2. The inventory clearly detailed certain defects present when we moved into the house. On moving out the landlord has tried to highlight these as issues caused by us and tried to charge us. B.E. were apparently there to agree these same issues. They are protecting a landlord who is trying his best to rob his tenants blind.
3. When contacting the agency about above issues we have not been provided with any information or evidence as to why we are being charged out of our deposit and been directed back to the landlord who is then directing us to BE. Legally, evidence must be provided.
In my opinion stay away from this agent.

I have to agree with this, unless you have a mortgage with them then they don't even let you view properties. This means sellers miss out on the best offer and buyers miss out on a dream home.
The branch never opens on time and the staff can't be bothered to even look at you if you enter the shop.

Comment on agent fees
I feel that value for money has sometimes been questionable with the contractors that BE use to repair the property. I would prefer if there were at least three quotes generated and the property owner could choose the preferred quotation.
