Fifty Shades of Mould
If you want to be lied to, financially cheated, ignored and disrespected, rent with Bridgfords. We can be forgiven for having great expectations of Bridgfords after paying extortionate tenants fees. Unfortunately as we would come to find out these fees do not reflect the service you get¢â‚¬Â¦
Our agent is one of the best con artists I have ever met. This woman managed to force us to sign up for home insurance that we didn't want or need. How? Well at first she tried to hide the papers underneath our tenancy agreement on signing day and handed us the pile to sign with no mention of the insurance. When questioned she said that ¢â‚¬ËœBridgfords had researched the best insurance possible for us and that this was the package'. How nice of them! When we politely declined, Sam told us (rudely) that it was a requirement of Bridgfords that we sign the document today or else NO KEYS. At this point all of our belongings were on transit to the property. Sam told us that we could cancel the insurance tomorrow with no charge and we believed her ¢â‚¬â€œ foolish. We ended up paying a total of £91.20 before we could cancel the cover.
Fast forward to arriving at our new flat. Just 4 out of 11 spotlights working, probably so that we couldn't see how badly the property had been left. Absolutely filthy. Surfaces caked in grime, windows cloudy with dirt and the worst case of mould I have ever seen in both bathrooms. Some parts of the property were so dirty they were unfit for purpose including the window blinds, oven and balcony - that was so covered in moss and debris it was a genuine safety hazard. All carpets stained, most furniture damaged with paint, marks all over wood floor and sinister black marks covering the living room wall that would not look out of place in a horror movie.
Moving past cosmetics ¢â‚¬â€œ letterbox (located in building foyer) had been forced open and would no longer close. Both mattresses past use by date and unfit for purpose. Table missing parts and Russian roulette with dining chairs, one collapsed on impact. Washing machine drawer blocked with gunge and drum full of MORE mould. After 9 days of persistence Bridgfords gave our contact details to a third party cleaning company (without asking) and promised to foot the bill. Said company did less than half the job and left leaving us paying to have the flat cleaned.
Four months into tenancy managed to get the mattresses changed ¢â‚¬â€œ or so we thought. Man turned up with ONE extremely basic mattress that cost ¢â‚¬Å“at the most £100¢â‚¬Â. One mattress for two friends to share, Bridgfords were getting saucy.
It turned out that Bridgfords enjoyed giving our personal contact details out and gave them to the landlord. Direct breach of contract. At this point I should mention that our agent still hadn't bothered to set up our rent direct debit meaning we had to ring every month, pay Bridgfords and then wait for them to send this on the landlord. Lengthy process. Landlord not happy. Tenants receiving monthly threatening phone calls and text messages from landlord of how he was going to come to the property and take all of our possessions. Brilliant.
By April we were ready to leave. The issues regarding the property were mounting up and every call to Bridgfords resulted in them getting us off the phone as quickly as possible and doing nothing about it. Once they had our money they really couldn't care less. When things finally did get seen to we had to change our schedules around them meaning countless days off work.
The main issue with the property was that the Landlord had not been paying his mortgage or building fees and that the flat was due to be repossessed ¢â‚¬â€œ leaving us homeless. Bridgfords continued to deny this until we finally had to go into the office with the letters where we were met with one of the rudest people I have ever had to deal with, she was so disrespectful that the Branch Manager had to come over and talk her down.
We informed Branch Manager that we wanted to end the tenancy and she assured us that she would deal with this for us. Lies. After a total of 16 phone calls, 3 emails, 2 branch visits and 1 request in writing we managed to end our tenancy ¢â‚¬â€œ 34 days after our initial request.
This post simply does not do justice We have been treated terribly by every member of staff at the Hacienda office from start to finish and would not wish our experience on anyone.
