Bridgefords Lettings has been a real disappointment in every way and I will strongly NOT recommend it to any landlord or tenant.
1. Not informed about delayed start date
Our tenancy was supposed to start on the 20th June as agreed when we paid our deposit. On the 20th, I arrived at the office to be informed that our apartment was not ready until the 21st. I was not informed beforehand and wasted a trip down. I had to lodge in a hotel that night.
2. Mismanagement of keys
During the handover, the service staff was not aware of which keys to give us and gave us a whole bunch. There were 3 sets of keys in the end. They did not realise it until 2 months later when the landlord asked. I had to make an extra trip down to their office to deliver to them. The following month, the key that was entrusted to them was gone! It caused so much trouble as we have to constantly be in the apartment during viewings.
3. Not replying emails (both Bridgefords and Countrywide)
We sent numerous emails to them with regards to the apartment's problem but NOT A SINGLE ONE was replied. We have to call them or visit their office to be put on hold for a long while before we can get things done.
4. Slow in solving problems
Our boiler was damaged and had to be replaced when we moved in. It took them 1 month to repair/replace it. I had 1 month of cold shower daily. The landlord was shocked and called directly to apologise. The manager Katie soon called but could sense that she was insincere.
5. Not appearing for appointments
Not only once or twice did they make us cancel our appointments and wait at the apartment for their viewings only to not appear nor inform us, they did it at least 4 times throughout the year.
6. Not honouring verbal agreements
On the last viewing(which they finally turned up), there was a verbal agreement between Katie and me that we did not have to move the table/chairs/microwave that we brought into the house. In fact, Katie would help us enquire if the new tenant would like to pay a small amount of cash for them. After a month, nothing was heard from Bridgefords, we emailed Countrywide but there was no reply. Hence, by the default agreement, we left the furniture. We were later charged more than £200 for the removal of them of which £60 was administration charge for the removal. Upon confrontation and after 2 long months of ¢â‚¬Å“INVESTIGATION¢â‚¬Â, they replied that no written agreement was made and hence, will still charge us.
7. Not doing their job
Ours was on 6 months rolling contract. On the 7th month of the contract, we received a letter saying we will be charged in court if we do not pay our rental. Nowhere in the 6 months did they inform us that our next payment was due nor how to pay it. When they called us, they were rude and make it sound like it was our fault totally.
8. Never doing what they say
At least 5 times I have spoken to them that I would like the contact person to be changed from my flatmate to me and cc me the emails. They have always agree with it but never change it in the system.
