Honestly... I can't believe how such an awful company can exist, and how they can be allowed to let out such horrific properties to people. When me and my boyfriend had moved into our flat last year in dec we had no idea what we were in for. The flat had heaters but definitely was not insulated and as the weather got colder we had the heaters on 24/7 but to no avail. We'd walk around the flat with 3-4 layers of clothing and our coats on constantly and be able to see our own breath. The bathroom was by far the most depressing, with an incompetent extractor fan and no heating it was like a walk-in freezer and the mold began to spread rapidly. If it wasn't for our extra heaters that we bought and each other pneumonia would have been on the cards for sure.
Nothing in the flat seemed to work properly, the washing machine couldn't cope with the weight of clothes and the heaters would pack up quite often. Despite me telling all of these things to the agency, leaders would often call or send letters to tell us that they had been to inspect and that it is our duty to clean the mold in the bathroom, and I'm like "yeah I already told you I'm trying, but it's a losing battle just cos it's so cold in here"! They really do not care, trust me! We, my boyfriend and I were nobody to them just a number, just some idiots that they'd trapped into this 6 month contract which felt like an eternity. We'd also rang several times about not having a functioning doorbell, and that the landing light had stopped working so that at night we struggled to even get the keys in the door, they just ignored us... Or rather the landlord ignored us. We'd not actually ever seen the landlord in the whole time that we were there and the block of flats was empty, in fact for the last few months of it we only recall seeing one other person. Nobody wanted to live in that hell hole, and there we were.
Towards the end we were given the check out manual, we steam cleaned the carpets scrubbed the kitchen and cleaned and repainted the walls. The bathroom was a challenge as the paint was coming off, and we couldn't reach the ceiling very well but we did what we could. Now they've taken £113 + vat making it £135 of our deposit to fix up the bathroom walls and ceiling! This sum of money wasn't broken down at all, and I can't help but believe it's just made up. Well we're disputing it obviously, I think we've suffered enough without having our money taken from us as well. The bathroom is a result of a poor property with poor heating, poor insulation, and general inadequate refurbishment. Not suitable for human beings to live in! Or animals for that matter...
Without a doubt the most awful experience we've ever had renting a property. And the experience is not yet over as we now have to fight for the rest of our money. I do not recommend this agency, not even to my worst enemy.
What agent could do to change your mind?
I know it's every company's objective to make money. But this is an inhuman way of treating people. It should be against the law to let out such awfully equipped properties, you're potentially ruining people's lives.
