After shown property, agent made no effort to understand our needs. Made no inclination that they even cared about a possible sale - looked positively bored.
Asked for no information with regards to contacts details should there be any other properties we might be interested in. From the outset we felt like they were on the Landlords behalf.
Offered a not unreasonably reduced rent and a date we could move in. We had good reasons for both. Agent made a gesture that this would not be acceptable and promised to pass onto landlord. Within three hours there was an answer from the agent that this was rejected - and the counter offer was to pay full price and move in straight away!
We repeated our reasons AGAIN to which we heard no reply.
Then a few weeks later, the same property is on rightmove with a price cheaper than we offered!! We contacted them and were told (via text) \'this is a mistake - don\'t know why that is there, but I can put forward this offer - which was the same as our previous one! We replied that this offer has already been made and rejected and repeated our proposal.... no answer.
Our experience was one of lack of professionalism. Only knows how bad they would be should they have had to deal with a plumbing problem or the like. Stay clear of these guys.
What agent could do to change your mind?
After living in London for over ten years I have had a lot of experience with estate agents.
Generally they are a bunch of useless middlemen. I hope the internet shuts down their industry.
Ask us what we were looking for - and listen!!
Look remotely interested in your job.
Use less hair gel and bull shit sales speak - they don\'t know who they\'re talking to - I could be an architect for all they know!!
Oh and be honest with any faults that are in the building - damp etc. Every building has one. Plus painting the damp patches is so obvious it\'s ridiculous - then an agent making up some bull. It\'s only going to become a problem later when the tenant reports the problem and demands the agent to sort it out.
I hate estate agents. They over charge or a very bad service. They generally never give a shit. Full of hot air.
