500 mile round trip from the North of England to do a viewing. We were very keen cash/no chain buyers. Explained to Jackie, who met us for the viewing, that as soon as we were done, we were back on the road North, and I couldnt call until the next morning, but left her in no uncertain terms having viewed the property with her, that this was a very positive outcome. and I would be ringing Simon first thing in the morning. Arrived home (after a 12 hour day to do a 30 minute viewing), and confirmed Land registry details, public access issues etc. Rang first thing next morning to make firm offer on property to be told the owner had received and accepted an offer the previous day. Clearly this may not be totally the agents error, as it may be the owner who decided that despite our 500 mile round trip we werent genuine purchasers, but for the agent not to have asked the owners on our behalf, to hold out for 12 hours whilst we drove home, knowing an offer was coming and therefore accepting offers on the table, was very very poor. Was our offer as good as the offer they accepted? Who knows. Cash, no chain, and prepared to give asking price, from a couple prepared to do an 500 mile day trip for one property? I think we proved we were genuine. Good luck to the potential buyers, and I hope for the sellers sake, this one doesnt fall through too. But for us, we wont be doing that road trip again for this agent. An expensive and unneccesary experience.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Jackie, was poor. Not particularly interested in selling (was the offer already agreed prior to our viewing?) and she arrived in an old motorhome with a dog. Not a great impression of an agent. Greatly disappointed that the owners werent asked to hold out for us to return home, having asked Jackie to do so, and told her of our practical issue of having to return North immediately. Indeed, I cant think of any reason why an owner wouldnt just wait 12 hours knowing another offer was coming, unless this had been agreed prior to our viewing. Very poor and expensive experience on our behalf.
