My house sale has been a shambles from beginning to end. So far it's taken 6 months and we still don't have a moving date. A little excessive to say there is a very small chain!!!!

An agent is just there to arrange viewings and qualify offers and track progress. The solicitors and you would have all had a particulars of sale letter saying who the buyer is and at what price etc and this is where your chosen solicitor or conveyancer has to take over. Of course the person at the bottom of a chain has to sell and complete first for their money to hit the next persons bank account and so it passes up the chain. It is impossible to give a firm completion date as one tiny glitch in the banks (which are FREQUENT) can mean that it sometimes doesn't complete on the day that its been anticipated. Nonetheless the solicitor is solely responsible for keeping a client up to date after a sale is agreed.
