Where to start? This bunch of cowboys are unequivocally the worst and most unprofessional group of people operating in any profession anywhere in London. They present a faƒÂ§ade of honesty and sincerity but in reality are untrustworthy and outright liars. We had been looking for a 3 bed flat in Clapham for a number of weeks last year when the market was pretty slow and there was little around so out of desperation we looked at a flat that they had on the market. It was dirty, unpleasant and too expensive for what it was. However, out of desperation and based on the promise that the whole place would be professionally cleaned to within an inch of its life we begrudgingly signed for it. I don't blame D&H for this as it was naƒÂ¯ve of us to sign for somewhere we didn't like. However, this is not the problem. Whilst viewing the property we were waiting outside for the agent to show up (late of course) and the next door property had a group of 5 or 6 guys in their early 20's hanging around outside looking like the posterboys for an asbo awareness advert which whilst not the end of the world was a bit unnerving. When the agent arrived and we asked if there had been any problems with these guys the agent spun a story that there had been a big party next door last night and this was just the remnants of that trickling away. Believing this was naƒÂ¯ve move number 2. Over the course of the next 6 months their numbers grew, they got more brazen in their actions towards anyone who walked down the road and were openly dealing drugs and being violent. Fortunately this stopped after they were all arrested for drug dealing and setting fire to someone's moped¢â‚¬Â¦.. The fact that our agent had this clearly concocted story ready to spill at the drop of a hat goes a long way towards explaining what type of people they have working for them. When we moved in the place had not, as had been promised, been professionally cleaned and alarmingly there was a sizable blood stain on one of the beds. Further issues that we raised with the agency¢â‚¬Â¦¢â‚¬Â¦..
An enormous hole in the bathroom window.
2 bedrooms were now being used as storage for an impressive assortment of furniture from other properties (took multiple emails and phone calls before they would remove it).
The locks did not work and they have still refused to replace them so safety is down to a latch.
The washing machine seal was broken and spewed dirty water into the kitchen (not fixed for 2 months).
The boiler pipe broke and started leaking boiling water all over the floor (took 3 weeks in the middle of winter to fix)
The dishwasher broke and repeatedly and spontaneously flooded the whole kitchen. We were blamed for this as the issue, and I quote, must have been caused by us opening the dishwasher mid cycle and therefore causing it to brake. They then tried to charge us for a new one or just live with it. However, one weekend while we were all out of London for a birthday the thing went mental and ended up flooding the flat below us resulting in the police and fire dept braking in to stop it. After this we got a plumber out who corroborated our version of events and after a 6 month saga they eventually replaced it.
Finally, when lease renewal time came around they said that we could take it straight away if we liked for what they considered market rate of 510 p/w and that we were getting a great deal as it would def go for 525 p/w (we currently pay 490). We (politely) refused. This hell hole has been on the market now for 3 weeks and no offers even though the price has been dramatically reduced. Some small shred of justice maybe as their commission will shrink.
If at all possible I would avoid these people like the plague unless you are a glutton for punishment and misery. Rant over.
