DRM residential caused me and my housemates hell pretty much the entire year.
We firstly arrived to a dirty flat that had clearly not been cleaned well, with all the dishes covered in grime. Trying to resolve problems with them was a nightmare as they were very uncommunicative.
Our heater broke in the beginning of December (and was according to the safety engineer had not been fit for use for the 3 months we were there which was so dangerous), whilst it was snowing and they left us without a heater for nearly 3 weeks which I’m pretty sure is illegal, we all had exams at this point and it was extreme distributive.
Secondly, I unfortunately caught Covid at the end of the year and was going to run over my tenancy, I rang and explained my situation to which I was told ‘go get a hotel’ and was pretty much told I didn’t have a choice to stay and if I did stay they would charge me a ridiculous amount of money.
I finally found a place to stay, and it meant that I had to walk through Edinburgh to a new house with all my stuff, all whilst being pretty ill with covid, I asked the manager (Joshua Mathie) if I could leave the house at 10pm in order to avoid being around a lot of people, to which I was told that I had to be gone by 5pm otherwise I would be charged for the extra day. This whole situation was so distressing for me and had such an affect on my mental health. This company is lacking a severe amount of empathy and would tell everyone to avoid at all costs.
On top of all this, they charged us a cleaning deposit despite the house being cleaner than when we first got there.
