I had the displeasure of renting via Helmores for 2 years; they were incompetent at best. I was left living in horrific conditions due to rising damp which they often failed to chase the landlord on repairs (even following reports demonstrating it was due to the building and not myself). They were always unhelpful & rude. In particular, Andy who had not worked there form the start of the issues (reported January 2019) came into the situation without reading any of the email history thinking he knew best. And only once presented with evidence to the contrary did he decide to do the bare minimum to contact and chase the landlord. It took the threat of reporting to the council and the ombudsman for him to pull his finger out. I now have active complaints with the council and ombudsman. This is a horrid company with no sense of decency & abysmal staff.

We note your comments in relation to the issue you experienced with the property but feel it valid to add some context to this. The landlord accepted that there had been a delay in dealing with the damp issue (which was exacerbated by the passing of his wife and the Covid-19 situation). Due to the fact that you had to wait longer than was fair for the remedial works to be undertaken a full three month rent free period was offered to you and accepted as well as paying for the required hotel accommodation. We forwarded the details for the property ombudsman etc back in June as we completely accept your right to raise complaints. I am afraid to say that the way you have spoken to me and other members of staff has been fairly confrontational and I do not accept that we have been rude to you. We do our absolute level best to treat all our landlords and tenants fairly and respect your right to complain and hope that you are happy in your new home and have as enjoyable a festive season as the current restrictions allow.

Covid 19 struck the UK in March 2020, the initial damp was reported in January 2019, and it took till October 2019 to carry out any inspection. A report was passed to Helmores shortly after this in early November 2019. Sadly, the landlords wife did pass also in March 2020. So both incidents you mentioned occurred 14 months after the damp was raised & 5 months after the report. You attempted to deny that damp was a problem a month ago, until I pulled the evidence dating back to 2019 that it was an issue of rising damp & you personally had acknowledged this yourself. You wonder why I have shown annoyance with you Andy? Maybe it’s because you came in pretending to know what you were talking about right up until I pulled out all the evidence. And then you backed right down because I had kept everything you assumed I didn’t. But thank you for your response and allowing me to further highlight the issues yourself, Helmores & the landlord caused.
