We placed our mother's house with Hamptons and it was a huge mistake. The agent, Mel Carter, valued our house too highly. It took nearly 3 weeks from signing our contract to be placed on line. We were threatened with taking the house off the market (it hadn't even been advertised) if we didn't get an EPC. The advert was eventually placed on line and we were not happy with the description. We were not asked for approval of the advert so we could provide feedback. We called for an update and someone else in the East Dulwich office basically told us the house was over valued. Seven weeks later, we are still not happy with the advert. Mel Carter could not handle assertive people and accused my husband, myself and our 19 year old daughter of being aggressive. Mel Carter almost broke down when we gave feedback, not in an aggressive way, just calmly assertive. She told us that photos and a floorplan sell a house! Our fees were over £36,000, we expect a bit more for our money but apparently we are not allowed to give feedback! The area manager agrees that the service we had was not good enough but only offered to provide us with a different agent. We have declined and now have moved our business to another estate agent. I have never come across this before and all I can say is STAY AWAY from Hamptons. They are absolutely appalling and do not provide any type of service. We have wasted 7 weeks and lost 2 fantastic houses to buy in the process
