I really don’t know where to start with our experiences trying to offer and secure a property through Blackshaws in Eastwood weekend of 21st June.
I truly believe we lost because we were discriminated towards by the agent due to my occupation!
Calls not returned when colleagues said they would. I was told of you want this property and you Don’t get a call by 9.15 call us. No call so I called at 9.20am to be told colleague now out for the day and there was no answer about my offer.
We increased our offer numerous times. Not once was we called to give us feedback as to what the vendor said. I put a ‘full and final‘ offer first thing on the Monday morning, which we was going to withdrawn at 1pm. At 12.50 still no call so I called. I was told that they had e to the other interested parties to get final offers. No acknowledgement of the revised offer (over £57k over the agents asking price) To date we’ve had no email or letter acknowledging or declining our offers.
9 viewings and 9 offers, tells you the agent most likely got the valuation wrong! (Property price has now changed to £70k more on Rightmove which is now overvaluing it by £25k)
All the viewers were introduced to the vendor who was then left to negotiate all the offers over the weekend which was very stressful for my family.
The agent said the vendor was nervous about my offer because of my job - in terms of trust n not pulling out when it got downvalued. Devastated we might lose our dream property we asked the vendor what he meant and he didn’t know what we were talking about.
We were called my the director at 5pm on the Monday to ask for proof of our savings. He did say he would tie it up by 6pm which didn’t happen for whatever reason, so we walked away.

We are sorry you had a bad experience that was truly not our intention. On a personal note, you have worked with my father for many years and he speaks very highly of you. We wanted you to get the property! The situation had absolutely nothing to do with you being a fellow estate agent! This I can assure you.
As you know full well, the sellers have the final say when it comes to offers. At Blackshaws we treat all buyers fairly and we presented all the offers to the owner on the day (together with financial details and information on any related sale) the owners asked for the rest of the weekend to think about the offers before making a decision. Come Monday we received additional offers on the property which further delayed their decision.
I’m aware this delay was stressful for you and you wanted a decision straight away. This is understandable. As above, we would had loved nothing more than for the seller to promptly accept your offer but this wasn’t to be. You subsequently withdrew your offer before the owner had made a decision, thereby taking yourself out of the running.
As an estate agent yourself, you can appreciate the difficult situation when multiple buyers are fighting for the same property. Since the easing of lockdown we have been inundated and that particular weekend we didn’t leave the branch until 10pm! Also on that Monday I was liasing with you from home until 9pm.
Please let me know if there is anything we can do to remedy your experience.
Yours sincerely
Perry Blackshaw
