Where do I start? Started the process by paying a £540 ‘reservation fee’ for a new build rental in January. Advised the property would be ready by Spring 2019. Minimal contact for many months, constantly chasing, left my mobile number at least 6 times for updates. Got to the point I had to visit the actual site after being given a ‘no update as yet’ phone call. Had more info from the site than the estate agent, which says everything. Finally on 30th August, received a call to say I could move in on 2nd September, the keys and moving packs were being prepared and I’d receive a call Monday to arrange an appointment. Monday, no call, chased them and advised they would chase up missing paperwork and call me back (didn’t happen) Tuesday, called to chase, advised still awaiting paperwork, they would chase up and call me back (surprise surprise, didn’t happen) Wednesday, was given keys by the site as bed was being delivered. Surprisingly, Graham, the director arrived, advised they were still missing paperwork but would let me sign(???) went down to sign where lo and behold, all the missing paperwork was in my pack!!! Signed the tenancy agreement and paid £950 (one months rent and deposit) and asked when my reservation fee would be refunded or would be taken off my monthly rent (checked online and seems to be refunded within 7-10 working days) and here’s the kicker.... advised it wouldn’t be refunded!!! Asked why it wasn’t being refunded as I have taken the property. The girl behind the desk started to say it was for fees but seemed to stop herself (remembering agency fees to be paid by tenants was stopped on 1st June this year) and now the key I was given doesn’t fit the lobby door so now have to go through the patio doors!!!! I think I’ve just about covered the nightmare of the last 8 months, but I’m sure I’ll remember other things. I’ll be send this complaint regarding my reservation fee to their head office first of all, and if I have no joy, it’ll be onto Trading Standards and the Property Ombudsman.
